99% of the time cows have a flight response - when they get scared they usually take off. Especially new baby calves. Well, meet the baby girl that is that 1%.
We took mama in to be milked. Let her stay in with the rest of the cows for a bit since she went strait to the feed bunk. I always make sure the calves are filled up on colostrum the first milking (some nurse from mama well and some don't). As soon as I got in the pen with the calf she went nuts! Usually they run to the corner or try and bolt through the gate. I was ready for that. I was not ready for her to put her head down and charge me like a bull! Luckily, she's kind of small. She didn't stop after one ram either. She then turned into a goat and stood there on her hind legs and then butted me again. I was so shocked I just stood there stunned for a moment as she got in a 3rd attack. That one knocked me out of my stupor and I said that's enough of that! I held her head up so she couldn't attack me anymore and then we danced around the pen a bit before she realized that was milk in her mouth not some deadly poison meant to kill her. I'd love to say we're now the best of friends, but it's not true. She still attacks first then looks second. It's her back legs I have to watch out for now. When startled she kicks! She's really something! |

| Strong little girl, she won't take any guff. You could name her after Beth on Yellowstone and Dutton Ranch... Love those two shows and Beth is a firecracker. I want to be like her when I grow up. |

Wow, Heather what a way to start your day. Hopefully she will grow out of it:-) Oh yes she does sound like the firecracker Beth, from the Dutton Ranch and Yellowstone. Love the shows and can not wait for Marshalls to come back on. |

Sounds like now you need to find a Rip to hand her off to!
Anyone watch Landman? Another Taylor Sheridan project but my brother and I struggled to sit through an episode this weekend and can't say I'm itching to subscribe to Paramount to see what happens next... Yellowstone was riveting though. |
