That sounds very interesting April! I can see why you came back to it a couple times.

Chris - It depends on what I'm reading as to how many books I read at a time. If I'm ready something that's more informational (like you mentioned Woe is I), I'd also read another book at the same time. I can only take so much of them at a time before I'm sound asleep! When I was reading Melania and Audrey's book it was just the one at a time.

I have finished Audrey's book and I would recommend it! She didn't really do any one big thing during the war, but rather she grew up under Nazi occupation. Which means, along with many others, she participated in many small acts that were part of the resistance. She had just turned 11 when the invasion happened and was 16 when it ended. I don't want to give too much away if you want to read it, but it's a very interesting view of the war.

Stone Yard Devotional's summary sounds kind of apocalyptic! Audrey's adolescence definitely was!

I am glad others skim magazines and crafting books for just what they need. It never quite feels like I earned the right to say I "read" these, but in reality, I've probably spent more time with them and engaged with parts of them more actively.

So true to Debbie F. and Heather-- I will do a couple non-fiction books and add a lighter fictional read for "dessert" but if I were trying to read several fiction titles at a time, I would get the plots confused.

I love to skim magazines and craft books - especially before bed when I am winding down. I recently discovered that Libby lets me read magazines online - which is fun - but definitely not the same as holding the actual magazine. I just have too many magazines "saved" just in case - and craft books is a whole other problem. I love to look for them at thrift shops, estate sales and quilt guild destash sales. I can't pass up bargain craft books.

I do read more than one book at a time - usually I have an actual fiction and non-fiction book next to my bed and then I'll usually have an e-book from Libby on my phone. I save audio books for long car trips.

Currently I am reading TumTum and Nutmeg - adventures of two little mice - this is my audition for reading to Caroline. She's 4 and ready for chapter books but I want to pick the right ones. I have been reading Brambly Hedge to her - what a lovely book with amazing illustrations. I read to her long distance with Facetime - usually during her dinner. Gives her parents a little break at the end of a long day and she seems to be enjoying it. I read a few pages and then show her the pictures when they appear. I also started a private youtube channel just for her and have been recording me and other family members reading books there. I've got some sweet ones of my dad reading to her. But I'm not really sure how often my daughter pulls it up for her - they are not big on screen time. Today we read two stories from Brambly Hedge and she sat still almost until the end. She loved the word mysterious and kept repeating it - too fun!

Laura, I love that you think of it as "auditioning." What a fun way to use technology to connect; a private youtube channel is so clever, I've never heard of that but can picture what a fun time capsule that might be for her to rediscover when she is older. Several of my screen time-averse parent friends and family swear by Yoto players. They are a screen-free MP3 player and they sell blank soundcards so you can record yourself reading and upload to customize your own audiobook. However, at her age, she probably *really* prefers to be able to see the mysterious pictures and it must be way more gratifying for you to be able to see how long she stays engaged. Let us know how your tradition goes!

I wanted to share with all of you this wonderful children’s book I just read. I bought it for my little nephew Wally.
It’s called “The World Needs The Wonder You See” by Joanna Gaines. She and her husband Chip are the stars of Fixer Upper and have 4 Children.
Here is what she wrote at the beginning of the book:

I absolutely love the book and I cannot wait to read it to Wally when they come in July. As I want to read the Wonder in Wally’s eyes as we explore the outdoors, the park and the animal Safari. The book is wonderful and for all ages even this 70 year old. And I hope I never lose the Wonder of our surroundings and wherever we travel:-)

Big Hugs,
Debbie

Debbie thank you for sharing this book, I will definitely keep this one in mind if/when I become a grandma!
