| Our cow that was due to have her calf on the 21st jumped the gun by about a week. That usually means there are twins. I don't have the pictures off my camera yet, but she had 2 cute little heifers that picked the names Sugar and Cookie. When I tried to call them Mistletoe and Holly they ignored me. When I said how about Merry and Joy one actually turned and walked away! I said how about Sugar and Cookie? Sugar gave me a moo and Cookie came running. Of course they picked the day that it was snowing and the wind chill was below zero to make their entrance into the world. They seem to be doing really well despite this moody weather. Yesterday it was 54 and raining. Today the wind chill was below 0 and it was snowing. I hear that Christmas day it's supposed to be 60 :( At least we had a white before Christmas LOL! I'll post some pictures as soon as I get them off my camera. |

| How exciting Heather! So ‘Sugar’ and ‘Cookie’ it is, that is so funny. We are having flip flop weather too. One morning it’s 22 degrees and high of 38 like three days ago, then today we are riding around with 65 degrees and our windows open. Looking forward to pictures of the twins! |

Sugar Cookie goes best with milk of all those options. Do you keep most/all your heifer babies or what happens to them when they grow up?
We have rain in the forecast for Christmas here which I am very excited about, perfect cozy reading weather. |

We keep all the heifer babies with 2 exceptions - if we cross the Holsteins with a beef breed (usually Herefords) we don't keep them (they don't milk enough to pay for their feed. We kept a couple to try) and if there are twins with one heifer and one bull the heifer is sterile over 90% of the time. They are called free martins. Somehow the hormones from the bull calf mess up the heifer's reproductive system development. So we don't keep those heifers either. All the others stay and get bred at 15 months so they have their first calf and join the milking herd when they're 2 years old.

Sugar is the more white one and cookie is the black one. They're doing wonderful! Sugar is the talker. She moos every time she sees one of us. Cookie has the bad habit of trying to take out your kneecaps! |

| Cute and fascinating! Guess that makes me the human equivalent of a free martin (with a fraternal twin brother). There I was, so worried I might have twins myself when cows have the opposite worry. |

| How cool Chris to have a twin. I always wished I could have had a twin brother or sister. |
