Hi sisters!! :)

I wanted to offer up a challenge to each of you. Spend the month of November focusing on gratefulness. Journal/list one thing that you are thankful or grateful for each day. You may share if you want, but it’s not required. I have a few smaller journals/notebooks that I will track my gratitude in. Wanna join me?

Karen :)

I'm in. I have a gratefulness journal so do I need to start a new one or can I just continue in this one?

Ooo! I am grateful for this challenge!

I'm not sure I will revisit a journal, so I'm going to drop my first two here...

Nov 1- Backyard BBQ/graduation celebration-- Fallon played 2 hours with 8 friends from preschool while we recruited their parents to join us for climbing-camping adventures in the spring. I remember worrying in those preschool days that parenthood would be one giant lonely slog and veteran parents tried to assure me that we would find a tribe. I'm glad they were right.

Nov 2- 15K "Dinodash" 15K bike event-- There are so many ways this could have gone sideways. 1 mile in, Fallon's bike launched over a big pinecone, miraculously she recovered her balance, and we pulled over for a calm down water break and to debate the merits of turning around. By mile 9 she was weaving in between pinecones, menacing rocks, and manhole covers, giggling, "You can't fool me!" Similar to Nov 1, somehow we managed to bump into 11 family friends in the space of this short event and isn't even in our home school district. I'm grateful for being in a season where we are surrounded by friends and seeing our kid adopt a growth mindset.

You can do a journal but you certainly don’t have to do one!! :)
Denise, that’s up to you!! :)
Thank you Chris for sharing!! :) It’s tough to be a parent! Your tribe will ebb and flow with Fallon’s activities and grade level. So glad you ran into so many people you knew!!

I don't write it in a journal, but every evening when I'm out back feeding the calves their milk I take a minute to give thanks. For things I have, good things that happened, etc. Helps me remember what's important and let go of the things that aren't.

I do keep a journal and have for over 40 years. So in my old age when I forget something from years ago I can look back and remember. I use the same journal to write what I am truly grateful. And over the years there have been so many things I was grateful for.
Today, I am thankful and grateful for every Wildflower in Our Bouquet. Each Wildflower brings so much joy and happiness to my day and I am so grateful to each of you.

That's true Cindy! I am trying to be grateful even for the not so nice things because I know there is a lesson or something in there for me to learn. It's not easy but I am trying to be grateful in all things. They are all there for a reason. I write in mine as often as I remember and thanks Karen for the challenge to do it each day.

Nov 3- Although our internet was cutting in and out throughout the day (great! I need all the help I can get to spend less time in front of screens), I am grateful it held long enough for us to stream Home Alone for our movie night Monday. Fallon was alternately giggling at Kevin's shenanigans and marveling at what an 8 year old could hypothetically do by himself back in the 90's. Plus every time the camera cut to that tarantula on the loose, I thought of you wildflowers and our critters of the month. It is so amazing to be a part of this group.

That’s a great movie for kids!! All of my littles have loved it. Merit does the funniest imitation of Marv the burglar. I think the boys even tried setting some booby traps in their house after they watched it. Seven is a fun age :)

Hehe, I'm hoping she doesn't get it in her head to tar the stairs!

Nov 4- We enrolled Fallon into an extra half day of science at the learning center and she loves her new teacher and her welcoming new classmates. I am so relieved she is excited to go back and grateful I got to take the dog for a leisurely extra walk, practice some sidewalk Spanish greetings, and sit in the sun and read for fun for a few extra minutes while "off duty."

I am grateful for the rain we have been having, our grass is so green. Love this time of year when our grass and flowers are getting an extra drink of water.

Debbie is so right! I love watching our rain barrels fill up.

Nov 5 - Libraries! Not a week goes by when I don't visit our local one. I'm not great with names, but I go so often, I've learned about a half dozen of the librarian names.

Nov 6 - The smell of crayons... I am trying to look at my phone less, so I have taken to printing out a daily to do list. I never actually finish it, what with it being 3 columns of stuff and penciling in even more "next actions" throughout the day. So to add some whimsy, I took to crossing each item off with a different colored crayon I borrowed from Fallon. It is so satisfying to see this big colorful pile of crayons in my outbox at the end of the day and with every checked off thing comes with a whiff of nostalgia for those simpler Mr. Rogers days when there was no reason to rush and everything was going to be OK.

I love this Christine, the smell of crayons does bring back good memories of simpler times.

Nov 7 - Handy man. So the 15+ year old washing machine has started showing signs of dementia. First with the funny noises. Jens knew exactly what to do and before any laundry had piled up, he was back from the 'Depot run and the belt was conditioned. Then it seemed like it wasn't really centrifuging all the water out in the last spin cycle. But the load was sheets I hang dry anyway on this wonderful nylon "clothes line" / wet suit drying line Jens winched up and that I routinely commandeer and it is [almost] always sunny in Socal. So Jens again took the washing machine apart, diagnosed the problem and overnight ordered a new sensor. All of this MacGyvering is way outside my skillset. The best I could contribute was researching which replacement models reddit considers closer to "buy it for life" caliber. I am so lucky to have him on my team.
