Collywobbles:
This refers to a weird feeling in your stomach or an overall bellyache. It is derived from the Latin phrase cholera morbus, meaning it came from the disease we all know as cholera. This is a word many people still use especially older individuals, and the background is quite dark! Many don’t realize the dark background much like many being unaware of the origins of “Ring around the Rosie.”

Now I know when my tummy bothers me with and off feeling I always felt something bad was going to happen. Now I know what to call it!
My stomach has not felt Collywobbles in a while though thank goodness.

Big Hugs,
Debbie

I like this word Debbie, I will ignore the dark meaning, lol. I Think it sounds humorous, and I don’t know why, but it made me think of that dreaded monthly visitor as a a teen. It could have been a code word for that time. “I have the “collywobbles” this week.

LOL! It is a fun sounding word so I think I'll do the same as Wanda Sue and ignore the dark background. I tend to get the collywobbles if I stay up too late. My belly doesn't like it when I don't get enough sleep.

Nakhes (Yiddish):
This word, pronounced na-khez, signifies the intense joy and pride parents feel when their child achieves something, no matter how small. It's a very specific and passionate form of happiness, often linked to family and personal achievement.
I chose this word today because my Great Niece and Nephew Molly and Danny graduate from High School tomorrow, they are twins. But, the amazing part of that is that Danny is Autistic. Molly has been by his side all this years through thick and thin no matter what.
Their parents are so Nakhes of them both as they both achieved the mile stone together!
Congratulations Danny and Molly we are so proud of you.

Apricity:
is an archaic word that has been lost from the English language for centuries. Its definition refers to the warmth of sunlight in the winter, and it never caught on to mainstream use after its introduction in the 1600s.

And now you know:D

Thank you, Mama Hen! I have the collywobbles following a month of contributions but feel so Nakhes for us all adding to our collective badge count. We just got back from a birthday camp out, and I am hoping the dust accentuated my kalon rather than all my new wrinkles as we enjoyed the near-apricity of sunrise baking the evening chill off the campsite.

Mother in law/Granny inspired this first one when I overheard her lecturing Fallon on the correct deployment of "who" and "whom" as they puttered around the backyard pool and realized that I use it indiscriminately when I want to sound pretentious.

Whom

"If you want to be absolutely correct, the most important thing to know is that 'who' does something (it's a subject, like 'he'), and 'whom' has something done to it (it's an object, like 'him'). You might even try mentally substituting 'he' or 'him' where 'who' or 'whom' should go: if 'him' fits, you want 'whom' (both end with in 'm'); if 'he' fits, you want 'who' (both end in a vowel)... ask yourself 'who' is doing what to 'whom.'" - Woe Is I: A Grammarphobe's Guide to Better English in Plain English by Patricia T. O'Conner

Thank you so much for your entertaining way of sharing words over the past month, perfect!
Also the word Whom and the proper use of it and who. I know I am probably guilty of not using them properly at times.
Thank you.

Loved your words Debbie! Can't wait to see what Chris comes up with. I just got a copy of that book for the intermediate level badge. Now I just need to find the time to read it! And a little side note - I don't think I ever use the word whom. I'm going to have to start!

Heather is right, Woe is I is listed as a resource for a couple of badges. I also discovered the kid version of Woe is I Jr., if you are looking for lighter reading.

Fallon has stumped me asking about the strange accents she sees on some letters like the cedilla in her açai bowl or the tilda in her friend's surname (Zaldaña) but can't easily find on the keyboard. If you are similarly curious, this word will help you join us down this research rabbit hole.

Diacritic (noun): : a mark near or through an orthographic or phonetic character or combination of characters indicating a phonetic value different from that given the unmarked or otherwise marked element.

How interesting! You have me searching my keyboard wondering how you did that. I found the ~ but I can't put it above a letter LOL! You can tell Fallon she has stumped me also :)

I haven't figured out an easy way to put diacritics over letters from my PC, either. I cheat and copy paste a good one out of search results wherever I need it. If you find an easier way, let me know! On my phone keyboard, I can hold a letter down to get to a submenu of the diacritic options.

This morning was my last workout on this saddle. So many fun adventures buffing this one.

Beausage (byoo-sidj)

"Beausage is kind of like patina, but not exactly. Patina is environmental degradation of metal, or something hard, at least. Nobody has to use the Statue of Liberty for it to acquire patina. Beausage, though, comes only through use. It's not the same as worn out, though. Willie Nelson's guitar, Trigger, straddles the fence between beausage and just worn out. You probably own a hatchet, chair, knife, guitar, camera, baseball glove, typewriter, or pair of blue jeans that have been well worn and look better for it.

Beausage can't happen to just anything. The object has to be well made with good, durable materials in the first place, so that use makes it beautiful without making it dysfunctional. A plastic storage box that gets sunburned and brittle won't acquire beausage.

Bikes should have beausage." -Grant Petersen, Just Ride: A Radically Practical Guide to Riding Your Bike

That's amazing to me. Even as a kid I don't think my bike seat ever developed beausage like that!

I am *sanguine* about Wanda's May wildflower calendar sprouting in our first batch of vermicompost and my mother in law's macramé pot. Then again, with rosacea, I am sanguine most of the time.

sanguine
adjective

optimistic or positive, especially in an apparently bad or difficult situation.

Sanguine has Latin roots signifying "blood." In medieval medicine of Humorism, the constitution associated with the predominance of blood among the bodily humors, supposedly marked by a ruddy complexion was also believed to indicate an optimistic disposition.
