I’m have been growing Christmas Cactus for many years and never have I had them bloom at Christmas and never with so many different blooms. These are just about 4 years old as I bought them when we moved to Oregon. I had read that you could put your Cactus outside for the summer as they would love the fresh air, so I did. Have never known that fact or did it. In fact I just brought back into the house last night. They will not bloom for Christmas but they will be beautiful for Halloween. One plant is red and one pink. I have never in all my years growing them had so many amazing blooms and especially in October. I wish there were orange plants out there. So I wonder if they are doing so well because I put them outside this summer. Has any of you ever put your Cactus outside? I will do it again next summer if they will be this pretty again.
The pink plant does not have as many blooms as it is a smaller plant and has bloomed at least once already.
I will take another photo when they are in full bloom.
Please Wildflowers if you hav Christmas Cactus please share them with us.

Big Hugs,
Debbie

I do not have one but my mother in law does. It's a mystery to me what makes them bloom LOL! It seems to just bloom when it wants, but like yours, never at Christmas time. She keeps it in a sunny window year round. Sometimes in the summer the window is open so it's like being out side. Hers is pink.

Ah. I just wrote out a post and lost it. Anyway. Your cacti are beautiful Debbie! I have a Thanksgiving cactus that also has bloomed on Valentine's and St. Patrick's day the same year.
Someone told me you have to summer in the dark and bring it out in the fall to shock them so they bloom but that has not worked for me. How often do you water in the summer when it is outside Debbie? Our summer can get hot and dry here.

Here is mine at present.

I just got one as a gift! I'll try and remember to take pic of it and put it up here. I don't have a cell phone, so it's a bit of a process for me to take a pic :) I would love to learn more about the plant as I'm hopeless with indoor plants!!

Denise, I watered maybe once or twice a week while outside in the summer. But I live in a moist climate being so close to the water.
Joyce, I believe they are easy to take care of just make sure they stay moist. Then wait and see what time of year they will bloom. They are pretty plant.

Debbie

Krista, you and Heather should both get one for the holiday season to see if they will bloom for Christmas.

Beautiful! I'd love to get one but my house doesn't have any sunny windows. Plants never do well for long inside my house.

I got up this morning and found my Thanksgiving cactus has 6 teeny tiny buds on it. Hoping I get to see the blooms as we will be traveling to be with my daughter and family for Thanksgiving.
I tried to get a photo of them.

Oh it will be beautiful Denise.
Are you going to Jessie’s for Thanksgiving? What a great time you will have, I know it has been awhile since you have seen them.
Safe Travels and have a Blessed Thanksgiving.
