I just got back from our fall quilt retreat and thought I'd share a couple of the projects I worked on. The first is a sewing machine cover I embroidered and then sewed into a quick cover. The second is a quilt I've been working on for a while - America the Beautiful. The fabrics are the different state flowers. I sewed the squares together and just need to add the border.

It was fun - this is the first time my sister and I have been able to pack and unpack for retreat together. It was much nicer. She used to live in an upstairs duplex and carrying all her quilting supplies up and down the stairs was a lot - and then I'd drive home another hour and have to unload mine.
Tonight we actually kept sewing - which never happens - she is working on a beautiful strip quilt using our scraps and I am making a minky blanket and pillow for my granddaughter. I found a panel of the Pokey Little Puppy (Golden Book) that was meant to be a fabric book. I am using the pages for the top and the cover for a little pillow. I found the cutest minky that looks like a field of daisies. When I get that finished tomorrow night I'll post a picture.

Here's the little minky blanket I made for my granddaughter. The little daisies are so cute and soft and I love how the little pillow turned out.

Laura, that is so sweet! You are brave to sew with Minky! I’ve done it a couple of times and had to use LOTS of pins. She’s going to love it! |

I think it’s a polyester type fabric, it’s VERY soft and snuggly. It has a very short nap on it, almost like velvet. It’s nice to use for baby blankets, etc. You’ve maybe seen ready to buy baby blankets made from it and then bound with a wide satin binding. Now it comes in all colors and patterns! |

Minky is very soft and slippery. It's also very linty when you cut it and can really make a mess. I'd heard a lot of stories about it and knew that lots of people don't enjoy sewing with it.
I thought about using a walking foot on my machine - but I've never used one before. I just used my regular 1/4 inch foot and it worked out okay.

All that sewing you do and you've never used a walking foot?!? I love mine when I do little quilted projects! I've only made one big quilt project - before I had a walking foot and it has a few puckers in it.
Sounds like Minky is hard to work with but wonderful to cuddle with LOL! I'll have to look the next time in JoAnn's to see what it is. I don't think I'll be getting any LOL! |

Is minky one of the fabrics that “sheds” horribly?? |
