I thought it would good to have a place to share some favorites for this particular season we all seem to enjoy so much. I know some of you are still dealing with quite warm Temps during the fall months due to your locale. But we can still enjoy the fun fall cooking. I enjoy making soups and stews and I use my GBP cookbooks for many great recipes. I do make salads a lot to keep some of our meals light.
I will get my recipes to share and post them here. I hope you will share your favorites too.

I'm not even thinking about fall food yet. With our heat I'm trying to come up with meals that require little or no cooking. No soups, stews, or casseroles here for another month or two.

Nope, no DUH! I don't have any and have heard of them but not top on my mind.

Just came back from taking Ed to DFW airport; he's off to Michigan to a cousin's funeral. And I took a wrong exit on way home (I don't go to the airport often) and took me a while to find a way to get to the tollway to go home. I was upset at me, in strange territory for me, and unable to contact Ed, who knows the area well. I called Ed at least 10x and I could hear him but he couldn't hear me. GRR! Found out when his "ears" (hearing aids) are not on the charger and also not in his ears his phone sound automatically goes to them and he couldn't hear me talking in his backpack where he had them. One of these days he will learn! LOL!

Linda - I know what you mean about that airport. When Dana has been hunting in Texas and I fly there to drive home with him he has his nephew pick me up because he hasn't figured out how to get there without getting lost.

I don't know those books either. I'm getting rid of a lot of cookbooks. I love them but I just don't use them much anymore. Either I have the recipes memorized or I look them up on the internet.

Same here with the cookbooks. I have quite a few I've never made even ONE recipe out of. They sound good, but I just never get around to making them. I'm thinking of offering them to farmgirls who just want to pay book rate postage. They just take up room. The same thing with knitting and crochet books.

I've culled out a stack two feet high of sewing and quilting books. Some I've made every quilt in it and some not a one. I'm currently going through major cleanup of things; today 15 various candle holders went into a box for goodwill.

I kind of envy my sister. She has been a minimalist decorator for years, and doesn't have as much to get rid of. I am doing what you are doing, Judith - culling out magazines, pattern books, sewing and needlework kits, and chachkis (not sure that is spelled correctly?). I need to sell a few of my sewing machines, too, or give them away to future quilters so they can help encourage our craft!

I'm thinking if, while my husband is out of town, I can go through a few boxes that are out in the garage that haven't been gone through since we moved here over 2 years ago, maybe I can take it to a thrift shop. Most of what I'm going through is mine, not his, anyway, though he has enough old shoes to rival Imelda Marcos (not really but he does have a lot).

Judith, you are making incredible progress on downsizing and figuring out what to get rid of. It really takes time to do all that and sometimes it feels overwhelming. When I look at all my "stuff" I realize that even after the culling I have already done, there is much more work to do. It really takes some determination to keep at it because after awhile, you get sick and tired of doing it.

Linda, I sympathize with you getting tangled up going to an airport and then lost . Now, I never go anywhere like that without the help of my Google map telling me every step of the way. And even then, it is nerve wracking with all the traffic zooming by!

Moving helped me tremendously in the downsizing dept. though there are things I now wish I had kept.

This easy dessert recipe is wonderful for the beginning of fall. You can also adapt it by making your own filling with fresh apples you pick from a visit to the orchard. Enjoy!

Sorry it has taken me so long to post some recipes. I thought this would be easier if I snapped a photo from the book. Excuse any stains. This is one of our favorites!

The pork chop one is from an older book called Fall Favorites. I'll to look and see which one I got the peppers out of. I have all their Fall and Christmas books, I think plus a few others.

This recipe is a combination of a few recipes I found on the internet. I made this last year and also earlier this week.

Stuffed Acorn Squash
2 acorn squash - wash, cut in half & scoop out seeds
1 lb sweet Italian sausage (loose)
1 small onion, chopped
1 or 2 apples, chopped
Sage - 3 or 4 dried leaves
1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (or more)
2 cups long grain white rice (dry measure)

Start cooking the rice.
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Cook the sausage & onion. Drain. Then return to the pan.
Stove is off now.
Add the sage.
Add the chopped apples.
When rice is done mix it into the sausage mixture.
Stir in most of the cheese. Save some for the top.
Place the squash in a 13x9 baking dish, cut side up.
Fill the squash with the sausage mixture.
Sprinkle remaining cheese on top.
Bake at 350 for 45 minutes. Test the squash with a fork to make sure it is done.

There will be extra sausage/rice. I just dump it in the dish after the squash is filled.
This can be made with brown rice.
I have also made it with ground pork but prefer sausage.
