We had a severe thunderstorm go through last night. Very high winds, luckily no hail, and some rain. I was running around shutting windows (it was hot so I left them open as long as possible trying to cool the house down) when my strawberry buckets fell out of the dish drainer on the counter onto the floor. I thought it was odd, but it was thundering and lightning and blowing so much I didn't think too much of it. Nathan looked out the window and there was a tree in the way!!!! It wasn't supposed to be there. When it fell over it landed on the roof and shook the cabinets and counter so that's what make the buckets fall.

The tree just got the corner of the roof - very minimal damage. The way the wind was blowing and with the location of the tree it should have been a direct hit on the roof! Also - the other little roof in the bottom right of the picture - that's the pump house for the water well. The tree landed on the power line to the pump house but didn't break it or damage anything. We never lost water - which is a HUGE blessing with all the cows that need water when it's this hot. And check this out:

My cardinal is still hanging on the garage window where I put it!!!! What wonderful blessings :)

Wow Heather, so glad y’all are ok and didn’t suffer any more damage than losing the tree! The cardinal is a true blessing.

Oh my goodness Heather yes it is wonderful that things were not worse and you and Nathan are alright. See, now you know why I love the Cardinals, they are so special.

Oh my goodness - so thankful that you are all safe and okay. Take care - and relax in the heat - as you deal with all of it.

The only "casualties" we found during clean up today were the drivers side mirror on the pickup - there was not a scratch on the truck but somehow the mirror is busted out - and a sunflower that my mother in law was very sad about. We were just commenting how nice it was looking. It's a chocolate sunflower and she started it indoors. It's a major accomplishment for it to have survived and made it outside. She does not have a green thumb. There were a few others started indoors but they didn't make it to get planted outside LOL! The kitties also loved playing in the tree before we cleaned it up. They're so fun to watch. When I saw the cardinal hanging on the window when I was milking this morning I thought to myself "yup, there were angels near for sure!"

So glad you are all right Heather! That was a doozy of a storm. Scared the little ones but we didn't get what you did. Lost a couple small limbs in the front yard of the kids house. We've been here since Sunday babysitting.

I try Debbie - life's too short to not love what you're doing :)

I wondered how far south it went Denise. I hear that Quincy was hit worse than us and my mother in law said some of the stores in Holmes county are closed because they still don't have power. Luckily we never lost ours! We have a generator, but diesel it so expensive right now I'd really rather not have to run it. Stay cool (at least as cool as you can)!!!

All the time! We have a few of them that hang around. They're easier to spot in the winter when they can't hide in the foliage as well. The males are much easier to see (they're the red ones - the females are not as brightly colored). I haven't seen any hummingbirds yet this summer though.
