I think summers used to be longer with schools years ago.
Seems like we didn’t start until September instead of mid August.
Right after Labor Day.

| Darlene, we never started school until the day after Labor Day which meant early September. But we didn't get out of school until about June10th or so. I think another reason schools start earlier down here is because many provide a fall break of one week in early October and then have several long weekends which students get off and teachers may have a work day. We also have to build in hurricane days (instead of snow days) because we usually miss a couple of days each year with these bad storms. |

Same here, Winnie - started day after Labor day and didn't get out until mid June. That was in Illinois.

Yes in NY we started the Wednesday after Labor day and continued until the end of June because we also had to figure in snow days.
It could be they do it in the southern states because by June it is so hot. Not sure August is much different though. |

Same here in Tennessee when I was growing up, we went back after Labor Day, got out the end of May.

| Hope y'all had a good day. Today the temp hit 109. You just sweat walking to the mailbox. I'm so ready for Fall. Sadly here in Texas towards the Gulf Coast we will be lucky to start feeling the cooler weather in October maybe late September. |
