Winnie, thanks for sharing. It always makes me think of my dad's family and the farms they had as well as growing up on our own. I miss those simpler days but we can always choose to make our owns lives and days simple ones. That seems to be what makes us happier as time goes by.

Thank-you Sherry and Denise. We have to make our days simpler on our own because it won't happen by itself. As I grow older, it is simpler to keep it more simple. Raising kids was always so busy because they were all going in different directions at the same time!

Lately, I have been doing a lot of reading on the 20th Century, the Great Depression, and both world wars. Even during these early years, it was becoming harder and harder to make a living on a farm. But people hung on for as long as possible and many succeeded until the Depression when nobody had money to buy things and farms couldn't pay their mortgages and animal feed. If they didn't grow it, they didn't have it. There is a lot of historical fiction out there about this era, and the thing I find so amazing is that those who managed to stay on their farm were never hungry and didn't feel poor. Everyone they knew was in the same situation. They just made do and learned to live on a tight budget. I find that amazing. This is the era my mother, born 1914, was raised and she was taught all those values of frugality, simplicity, and hard work. She incorporated those same values raising her family and we never thought that life was tough or limited.

Winnie…I’m like you. I love homespun. I would love to know what kind of search words you used. All I can find when I google homespun is definitions! :) lol

I agree with what you all are saying.
Most things nowadays if it isn’t something you don’t need, why have it..
Anyway thank you sweet sisters!

Love you all

Karen, I started with Amazon books area and tried housewife homespun poetry and found nothing specific. However, I found a book called Too Wet to Plow by Frank Luis, Jr. I ordered a second hand copy and it arrived today. It is full of poetry, little vignettes, ink pen art and a few photos. The author writes about his life on a farm in the Ozark about a century ago. I looked through it and can't wait to start reading. It sounds like just what I was hoping to find! The author was born in 1911 and moved to the farm when he was 4. What struck me was that my Dad was born in 1902 and was raised on a dairy farm in Omaha Nebraska. My Mom was born in 1914 and spent all her teen years and up till her mid 20s on a farm in Sunman, Indiana. I am hoping this book will provide more insight into American life on the farm during this era of the book's author. I will report back after I have a chance to read it.

You won't find any books or things by the Homespun Wife as she is not published. At least not the friend I share.

I haven't looked but I'm hoping my daffodils are still okay after the cold and snow we've had here.
