Oh, these latest photos posted are just wonderful!! Thank-you Denise for taking the time to search for something fun and meaningful. I hope your back and ankle get better soon!

The latest cover of the Vermont Country Fair magazine has a photo of the inside of the store and its original wood stove. It is so cozy and welcoming!! I have not ever really been in an old country store like the photos show but every time I see a picture, I think of how I would love to have experienced being there!!

We still had one country store around in our area and dad loved to frequent it. Whenever I thought he might be headed that way I would always hang near him in case he asked if I wanted to go. I loved that old place as much as he did.

Happy Monday!

"Red barn, your walls are a coat for me,
Protection from wind and snow for me,
Storage of food jars and blankets and cream,
A shelter and keeper of sweet childhood dream.

Red barn, your roof is a blanket for me,
Warmth and contentment and comfort for me,
Flour sacks for pillows and lanterns that glow,
A castle of scarlet on crystal white snow."
~'The Old Red Barn,' by The Homespun Wife

Bonnie, sorry to hear you broke your foot. I cannot believe that sciatica can cause such pain in the ankle. The chiropractor is helping.

Anyone remember the vintage type picture like this on greeting cards? I think I may have a card or two around with a similar picture on it.

I was able to visit the Laura Ingalls Wilder log cabin home this past Fall in Osage , Oklahoma. Living conditions inside were tight to say the least, but it was still a cozy home for the times and the big fireplace was a source a heat and cooking. Since it was just one room in size, I am imaging that the long winters were hard but at least doable. What courage and determination those settlers of the West had to have to survive.
