Darlene, I hope the weekend rain storms did not result in a lot of damage to everyone. The rain was welcomed, but it all decided to come in one big blow-out of a storm, which is never a good thing for anyone. Fall might show up down here by Friday after another cold front passes down. The last one only brought relief for 2 days before the heat and some humidity returned. This time, weather predicts a much longer return of cooler days and nights. We shall see. One never really knows in Florida. I would welcome some real changes away from never ending summer weather!

Debbie did you get some snow?

Even here in Texas we have leaves covering the ground, cool to us temps! We are 55° on our way to a high of 70° this afternoon. But we will have a lot of north west wind again, almost 30mph. In fact the wind does not even think about deminishing until dark tomorrow. So even with no freeze our pecan trees may lose most of their leaves. I have no idea how much rain we got night before last, but from the looks of things about an inch. I think I need to go thru my winter clothes, and begin getting some warmer things ready to wear. When my baby boy was 15 months old, we had a sleet storm on Halloween night. I remember, because I made him a costume from my old sundress...then we went into town to his Grandmas house. She told me to take him to a certain home... To trick or treat,( but mainly so the lady who lived there could see how cute he looked.) It was cold and blustry, so we did not tarry. But as I stepped down the steps, I could feel those tiny ice pellets hitting my face, as I hurried to the car with my precious baby boy! They don't think we will see sleet this year...but you never know.

Well, we hopefully will get a taste of Fall, Florida style this weekend. It will be nothing like what many of you are experiencing but cooler, drier and sweatshirt weather will be a welcome!

Today, since it was raining all day, I cut up my Florida Seminole pumpkin ,which is really a relative of the butternut squash, cooked the meat and had enough to make my Mom's pumpkin yeast bread recipe and enough to freeze 1 bags with 1 cup each inside. The yeast bread is very simple and delicious. It makes great toast too. Plus I found some Maple Pumpkin Butter at the store and I must say, it makes a slice of this bread delicious!!

My daughter made butternut squash pie. I've never had it but she said she substitutes it for pumpkin in her recipe and it comes out lighter in texture. I have 2 I need to use so may give this a try.

I love butternut squash - great idea using it instead of pumpkin.

Winnie, no we didn't get it as bad as it could have been. I blew hard for the evening and the rain came down but not like they were saying. The 26 to 30 foot surf and the tides were very high but no real damage done. unfortunately a Humpback whale washed up to shore. He died I guess! That was pretty sad.
Other wise all was good here.

hugs

We've had so many days we haven't been able to work on the kitchen but today we are getting put back to rights. Still have order the countertop. It will be so nice to be done with all of it. In time for me to get some baking done ahead for the holidays!
Have started some Christmas things.
I am meeting up with a farm girl on Wednesday. She used to be anyway but I don't think she is on the forum anymore. It will be nice to finally meet after years of getting to know one another. Starting to make some friends here too. Have a great day everyone.

No snow, Marilyn, but we are getting some much needed rain!
It turned to fall overnight and I am loving it!
It's my turn to bring something to have with coffee after church tomorrow and I decided on making a pumpkin pie today. The kitchen is going to smell wonderful!
