That was beautiful Connie!
I miss Woolworths, that was so fun to go shopping at.
I miss the good Christmas windows they used to decorate, not the same anymore.
Thanks for the nostalgia I love it.

Merry Christmas everyone!
Love you all.

Woolworth's and Newberry's were so much fun to go to. We didn't go very often but when we did my mom always made a big day of it. We always ate lunch at the Red Barn. It was always a treat. It was terrible when they sold that place. Everyone back home sure missed it. Those stores always had such magical window dressings at Christmas time.

I loved both stores, when I moved here we had both of them and they had so much stuff you could find. They even had clothes, not any more and Kmart closed in Eureka in November.
Phooy place.

Connie, these photos were just wonderful!! Oh my how I miss seeing a similar downtown these days. Although Charlottesville, Va. was not a huge town, it was always dressed up for Christmas . As a child, I loved seeing the lamp post decorations and all the lights and store displays. It felt like a magical place to me. I also remember going to our Woolworth's and hoping my Mom would let me ride the electric horse up front. It cost a dime and she didn't let me have a ride every time. I used to love that horse and wanted my own pony so much!

We still have decorations up through our little town. They put wreaths on the lamp posts and some of the stores still decorate their windows for Christmas but nothing like it was back home when I was a child.

Love the pictures and miss the displays like this. My town of 598 has no decorations more than lights. LOL

Denise same with me. When my Granny took us to Woolworths, we got all dressed up, back in those days she always wore her dress gloves!
Winnie, me too!! Love riding the horse, not every time if I wanted a dime for candy! or small toy!
We ate at the lunch counter rarely, we went to McDonalds, it sat on the parking lot of the shopping center, it was walk in only, so we ate in the car! if it was not too cold, there was a breezeway with benches and we ate there! It was always decorated for christmas and Santa's house was there too! I miss those days!!

Hugs! Connie
