If I ever had to make a new kitchen...it would have all drawers for bottom cabinets.
Why? Because I cannot longer get down to look into the back of the lower cabinets. If I could, right now, I would go to home depot and buy all new lower cabinets with drawers. The other thing that appeals to me is that every unit has two sides and a back...so if a mouse should ever find its way into my cabinet it would only have access to one part.
I remember when I was 30, we had just moved, and were talking of building again. I said I would love to have a two story house. My husband said, " If you have a two story house, you won't be able to take care of the upstairs when you get old.
That was 40+ years ago. I was skinny! But he could see something that I could not see. And he was correct.!±

Winnie,
We finished the first coat of paint on all the cabinets we have. We are still waiting on three to come in yet. The painting is a big job but I know I will be happy once it is all done and I can get everything put away and purge the rest. Trying to keep my eyes on the goal.
A happy note, we scheduled delivery of our living room furniture for Wednesday. Happy that came in when they originally told us it would.

My basil plant from my Aerogarden is/was quite prolific. I decided that it was time to cut it back and I made Pesto from a recipe book called Preserving Italy by Domenica Marchetti (a gift from a wonderful farmgal). the pesto is delicious! It freezes well too!

If anyone's interested, I did post about the Aerogarden on the main forum.

Cheers!

I have never tried salmonberries! I saw some salmonberry jam at Costco when I was up in British Columbia visiting my girlfriend and thought later that I should have bought a jar so that I could try it. Do they have their own flavor or do they taste similiar to another berry?

I don't know. But I read they are grown in Oregon so I wondered if yoi had ever had them. I think they might be on the tart side. I can"t remember now.

Drying pineapple today. I grab it whenever it goes on sale here. Doing onions tomorrow so I won't lose them. We never use a bagful so in order to save them from being wasted I will dry and throw in soups and such. I found blueberries and strawberries on sale this past week so we will have those fresh for desserts.

I have never heard of salmonberry. How interesting. I was surprised also to find strawberries and blueberries on sale. Usually they are at a premium this time of year. Maryellen

We are lucky down here because the strawberries are ripe and even a local place has U-pick berries patch open. The Florida ones are usually sweeter than the ones from other places right now. I love strawberries!

Oh....ripe strawberries! Just in time for Valentine's Day! YUM
My daughter has a French baking book and at one time she started baking something out of it every week. She started back up yesterday. You should have smelled her kitchen!!! It was an almond cake, only like 4 or 5 ingredients. She said it was really good.
Did any of you ever read the book or see the movie about the girl who took Julia Child's cookbook and made every single recipe in it over the course of a year? I've always thought it would be fun to go through a cookbook like that.

Debbie, your daughter sounds like she is having a blast and making delicious things as she goes. I think it would be hard to make every dish in Julia Child's cookbook and not end up gaining 50 pounds. She makes many delicious but rich recipes and lots of meat dishes as well. I enjoy reading those kinds of recipes for their stories and how they are made, but they would be too much for me to enjoy for a long period of time. I think. I watched her show on PBS for many years every Saturday just to learn cooking techniques.

Used up some bananas that were looking rather sweet and made a loaf of banana bread. Added extra banana and a little more liquid to get a nice moist bread. Have been having a slice with tea in the afternoons. Gave half the loaf to my daughter because it made a big loaf. Next time I will use 2 smaller pans.

Banana bread is always a hit, if you ask me! Strawberries were on sale this weekend so I made a Strawberry, Blueberry crisp for dessert and it was delicious. I had a jar of blueberries that I had frozen last year in March when we went blueberry picking and had forgotten about them. I used my apple crisp recipe and it worked fine with the berries. Delicious!

Oh that sounds delicious Winnie
I have one Blue berry bush I planted years ago. Has the best berries on it I eat a lot and freeze a lot. So tasty.
and probably would be great baked that way.

Would love to have our own blueberry bushes. I am going to miss all the wild black raspberries we had. I miss a lot of things but I don't miss the work the house needed.

Brad decided the other day when we were at Costco that we needed an air fryer. They had the same brand that my daughter has. "It's just $50!" as he was loading it in the cart. I'm thinking, "Where am I going to store the thing?" We tried it out last night with some frozen burritos. Good for a change but I think I like them better not so crispy. I know it's a learning curve but I still have to find a home for it! It's not going to sit on the counter every day.

Debbie, my hubby came in the other day and said two of his friends were just talking about the marvels of those new Air fryers and how great everything was. Like you, I don't have enough counter space as it is, and I have no place to put one either. Thankfully, he hasn't insisted we go out and get one and try it out. But I am not sure it would be all that useful or that I want to mess with yet another gizmo for the kitchen. Pretty much got rid of everything I did not use on a regular basis because my small kitchen was always too crowded. I recently have been reading a book by Miles Kimball who used to edit the magazine Cooks and does PBS shows on cooking. In a book he wrote in 1987 about his Yellow Farmhouse in Vermont, he lists all the basics that you need to do just about anything you want to do. He talks about how the Vermont tradition is to have things basic, modest, and only what is useful. No frills. That mentality has been resonating with me for the past 6-8 years and I have found that having quality basic cookware, I never want for extra new stuff. It is tempting to try new gadgets, but somehow they never end up important 2 years later and just take up space you don't really have and you don't use them.

But, then again, I might be missing out on the best thing since sliced bread!! LOL!!

I bought one and sent it back. One because it looked to big for just the 2 of us and two because I don't have the space for storing it.

I’m going to try chicken drumsticks in it and then decide if it goes back. I have been simplifying my house and this fryer kind of goes against that plan.

That's the way I felt about it Debbie. Everyone I know who has one loves them though. I just didn't want one more small appliance. I've gotten rid of so many due to little space here.
