I like pickled beets, but for corn I like the sweet yellow with butter and salt,
I have eaten it wrapped in foil with basil and butter on it and BBQ'd.
In the stores it is hard to get yellow corn here. They sell the white and it doesn't have the flavor of the yellow at least not for me.

Today is "Hug Holiday Day!"

Hug Holiday Day encourages us to give hugs to those who need them. On this day, people go out and give hugs at senior citizen centers, hospitals, and other places. The focus is upon elderly, sick and invalid, lonely people and anyone who needs the warmth, cheer, and love that a hug provides. This very special day was created by the "Hugs for Health Foundation".

Happy Day!

Popeye helped my son eat his spinach and other veggies, and I am sure lots of other little boys who wanted to grow big and strong. He enjoyed trees with cheese too. Broccoli. My son is a big tall man 6' 5".

This afternoon we celebrated, the 75th BIRTHDAY of my husband's cousin. It was a party thrown by her, at a winery next to her brother's place out in the country. Yes it was hot, but also fun. There was a band playing country music, water, wine, soft drinks and snacks. I had water. Many people had water...It was hot. Many photos were taken. She had prepared name tags for everyone. Your first name and how you were connected to her. My husband's had his name, with the comments: Cousin, just a few months younger than Scherry. Mine had my name, then cousin-in-law, (Lucky Robert). We all had a good laugh over mine. She, my husband, and another cousin(a guy) were all born within one year. Their dad's were overseas, WWII. They all lived with the new grandparents who were still raising their remaining children. In fact, since this was 1941 and 1942, these three babies grew up together until the war was over. They have always been close. It was fun. Her best friend from first grade, several from her high school graduating class, friends, folks she worked with were there. She retired about three years ago as a vice President of the University of Dallas, and turned around and accepted a role on the board of Parkland Hospital in Dallas. A volunteer position, but someone needed to do it. She is a country girl at heart, and for some reason, she took a liking to me, when Robert and I married, 54 years ago. Perhaps because I was the first new member of the grandkids family. Then we all had our first babies (my only one) within a year and a half of each other. It was a good celebration.
