A well known crafter, sewer, and recycler of items such as quilts and chenelle spreads passed away recently. Her daughters, in honor of their mother, after the house was empty of furniture, had a one day Betty/Recycle Sale. Each room was set up with different items, with rooms from red and blue fabric, brown and orange and green fabric, and holiday prints, etc. Some areas had "cutter quilts" to use for making totes, Christmas stockings, teddy bears, and some areas were of finished or started projects. People were given bags for each room. Fabric was weighted to pay for and other items were marked. Betty had several consignment craft booths in town and was a well known lady. I was privileged to know her and call her a friend. I also felt very privileged to be invited to this sale in her honor. I came away with so many items. Just today I finished sewing eight Christmas stockings which she had cut out and started. They are from cutter quilts (old quilts that you cut up and use for other things). So it seems that Recycling Betty as now become a part of many of her sewing friends. We are all blessed for it.

Katie, this is a wonderful story of the beautiful legacy that Betty left her fellow crafter friends. I love what her daughters did in her honor. I bet it was a wonderful event for everyone to attend and be inspired to finish Betty's projects as well as be inspired for new ones!!

That was such a special thing for her daughters to do in honor and memory of their Mom, and very unselfish too! I too often see items in Thrift stores, that I feel were started by someone and for one reason or another never got finished! (I have a few of those things myself!) but I am trying to remedy that situation right now! Working on two projects, plus a ton of work in the yard has kept me off line for awhile!
Hugs to you all

I was going through my fabric stash (archives) and found all the softer colored baby fabric and my local neighborhood quilt cut out 5" squares. We will sew them together with at least four light blocks to make little quilts for families that have lost a baby. The nurses stamp a hand print and footprint on the solid blocks with the name and date of the baby. It's a grief gift. We are just starting this project so I'll post a picture when I get one made.

I have some old quilts that belonged to my grandmom and greatmom and I have been trying to figure out how to re-purpose them. I can't get past the idea of cutting them up. They aren't useful as they are with holes and all but..............

Denise, I know exactly what you mean! I have many beautiful dresser scarves, doilies, etc with beautiful embroidery and crochet from my grandmother and even great-grandmother that are just stored away. I want to repurpose them so they are seen and useful again, but I also can't get past the idea of cutting them or disturbing them in any way. It's a dilemma!

I have tons of their doilies, tablecloths and such too Amy. A dilemma for sure but then I think about my mom, grandmom and great gram and know they would think it was awesome if I found a new way to keep them and use them. I just can't seem to make the first cut.
