Happy New Year my farm girl friends!

To Start out 2014 we will be having a secret sister swap. This is one of my favorite swaps.

The dates for the swap will be February 1st through April 30th.

The rules are simple, please send a thoughtful card or small gift at least every 2 weeks, remember all the fun holidays in those months and send a reveal gift to arrive close to April 30th.

Please e-mail me the answers to these questions.

What is you favorite color-greens and earth tones
What are your hobbies-sewing, crochet, embroidery, cooking and reading.
What is your favorite author-hard to pick just one, I love to read
What treats do you like-red and black licorice
Do you drink coffee or Tea-both
What is your decorating style-shabby chic-country
Do you have pierced ears-yes
Do you garden-I have large flower and vegetable gardens. I preserve and dry a lot of our food. Added to our home raised meats, it really helps with the grocery bill, plus tastes a whole lot better.

Anything else you would like your partner to know that May help them put a wonderful package together for you-I love anything hand made and love all farm girl mail.

Don't forget to come back to the Hen House to post a Thank You so your partner knows you received her package or card! We all love to share in that excitement!

The sign-ups will run through January 21st. And I will send all of you your partners by the 24th.

Hope we get everyone to sign up!

Hugs
Julie

Hi Julie,
Sounds like great fun...here are my responses below:
Deep red violet to purples are my favorites colors of the moment.
Hobbies: photography, knitting, baking, sewing, art journal and scrapbooking, drawing and painting, playing mandolin
Fav author: Jane Austen, Susan Wittig Albert
Favorite treats: I am allergic to cow dairy except butter so I eat dark chocolate only, I love cookies, shortbread, etc., not much of a candy or gum girl
I only drink loose leaf green, black and white teas...(anything with essential oils, etc. or flavorings kicks up my asthma)
Style: ethnic primitive vintage chic, more country than modern
Yes, I have pierced ears
I am a gardening maniac!
I'm 5' 10'' tall so always buy XL anything, including aprons, etc, otherwise too much of me sticks out. I love art supplies, anything to do with vegetable and flower organic gardening, home cooked food and baking. I pretty much put up the food we eat for the winter from our own and neighboring farms and gardens, drying, freezing, canning. I do make sheep's milk cheeses, yogurt, and kefir, and other fermented foods. I love vintage anything, read mysteries (but not creepy horror or war stuff) and do a lot of volunteer work at our library, mosquito control board, and community events. Now that I have a grandson, I am a sucker for stickers and have been making shadowboxes with many of my photos.

Julie,
I hate to be a "special case", BUT (don't you hate that as a lead-in?) I am traveling starting next Tuesday, 1/21/14 until 2/12/14...is there any way you could slip me a private email with my partner so I can send out a secret gift before I go, and bring some appropriate things with me? Pretty please??
I would so appreciate it.

Thank you, Julie for the early "telling" of my secret sister...now I have a logistical question: how do I keep myself a secret?? No return address on packages? Sneaky mailing from a different sister's address? Do clue me in! Or do I "wink wink" not really keep myself secret?
hugs,
Rain

Good question Rain,
When we have done the S.S. On the big forum, we use Mary Janes Farm address for the return addy. Mailing from a different post office or ordering something on line and having it sent direct also lends to the mystery. I have done both to throw my partner for a loop. Many of our girls have their husband block out the canceled postage stamp so it doesn't ruin their surprise. Hope that gives you some direction!

Hugs
Julie

Julie, I am going to bow out of Secret Sister due to my surgery and recuperation, it would make me very unhappy if I could not give it 100%. I love Secret Sister so much and I want to be able to enjoy shopping, making and putting together my Secret Sisters Packages and I do not think I could do it. So, y'all have fun and I will sign up for the next one.
Plus, I have a special surprise and swap I would love to do for the late spring/early summer that I believe we will all enjoy so... till then.
Hugs,
Debbie

Shouldn't we just use the same return address of Mary Janes Farm?

I have the address'it is:

Mary Janes Farm
1000 Wild Iris Lane
Moscow Idaho 83743-8489

This way it is still a secret.

I guess I haven't looked at the postmark either and some don't show it either.
I think the ss address is mostly for a safe way to send your packages so the post office doesn't think it is dangerous if it doesn't have a return address on it.
