Hello ladies, Jess has been in labor for over 48 hours now, a visit to the hospital yesterday for a check-up gave some relief as she and the baby are both fine, just not dilating well. Jessica was pretty exhausted last night, slept some, but not progressing well yet. We are asking friends and family to include her in their prayers today, just beam some light for the safe delivery of my grandson. Thanks in advance! hugs, Rain

Rain, why are they not doing a c-section??? 48 hours is a very long time...way too long!! Hope today brings a safe delivery of that baby boy!

The doctor won't intervene with pitocin or C-section unless there is distress happening, mostly because her water hasn't broken yet. So for now they are watching and giving her fluids. Apparently testing the uterine contractions, Jess is right on the money and they think she just needs time to fully dilate. I'm going a little out of my mind today, and yes, want to jump in and just tell that to deliver that baby now, but I am trying to just suck it up. Rain

Wow, I am surprised they don't break her water to start moving things along faster! I'm certainly not an expert because I had two planned c-sections, but it seems like they need to move things along for her. That being said, if she is at all nervous about a c-section, I am here to tell you that they were a piece of cake for me. I recovered alot faster than many friends who had regular births. It must be hard to stand by and just watch. I feel for both of you! Keep us posted.

I will be praying all goes well and soon. I know it sounds cruel but if all is well I am glad they are not doing Pitocin or a c section. Around here it seems like they find any excuse to use either. I can't think of one women I know that has had a baby in the last 5 years that has not had one or the other of these.

I don't think over 48 hours in labor is a great thing for any woman. Pitocin and/or C-sections are widely used to prevent complications in labor and delivery. We don't live in the dark ages any more, thank goodness! I am very glad and extremely fortunate that my doctor was the head of obstetrics at Hoag Hospital in Newport Beach. She was extremely respected, highly ethical and very progressive in treating her ob patients. I had two planned c-sections, both for very legitimate medical reasons and both with wonderful outcomes for me and my children!

Tammy, I am so glad both of your C-sections were successful and had wonderful outcomes! Sadly, some women are not that blessed and it is kind of the luck of the draw, sort of like labor and delivery in general. And yes, labor started on Monday morning, but since her water has not broken, the doc does not consider the clock to have started ticking down to intervention.
Jess is being closely monitored and really doesn't want intervention if it isn't necessary, and I respect her choice, although I am relieved to know the whole team is ready to go at the first sign of distress for Mom or baby. Denise, I agree that there are a lot of doctors that don't really give women a chance to deliver vaginally, despite their birth plan. I like all the members of their team, thankfully.
Just got an update and the contractions are 4-5 minutes apart and increasing in intensity for the first time, so hopefully here we go! Jess is feeling stronger, and very determined, the baby's vital signs are fabulous, so I'm breathing deeper. Not relaxed yet, but feeling pretty focused myself! thanks to all, Rain

Good news happening an hour ago...labor has progressed to contractions 3 minutes apart with good amplitude, and Jess has now moved to the birthing center, dilation happening. Thank you for all the thoughts, prayers, and good wishes! I'm hanging in here as best I can. love to all, Rain

Wow Rain...I feel so sorry for your daughter. Hope all is well with the baby. My DIL had a 36 hour labor In May and come to find out the baby was upside down and had the umbilical cord wrapped around his neck. He was a blue baby...but now is nice and healthy and happy. But I don't know how it would have gone if she had gone any longer kept laboring.
Hope by now...baby is born and both mommy and baby are great!
Hugs, Peggy

The baby finally made his safe arrival at about 5am Colorado time...whew! It turned out there was a lot of cord, and some was wrapped around his body so he got hung up (my poor Jessica!)with a couple of millimeters left to dilate for an hour or so, then again his head not progressing down. With a bit of assistance, he was finally born. Everyone is doing fine, exhausted, happy, grateful, and this new grandmother finally got to sleep about 6am.
Thank you all for the thoughts and prayers! We all feel truly blessed. This was a long, hard labor and I am so proud of Jessica...hopefully now my stomach can let go of the big knot of anxiety! take care, Rain

CONGRATULATIONS GRANDMA!!! I think it is almost harder for the Family Members to have to wait soooooooooooooooooooooo looooooooooooooooong! It can be so draining on everyone.
Finally he is here and now Ya'll can catch up on some much needed sleep!!! There will be LOTS of snuggling time with D3 later. It is funny how some of those nick names can stick. LOL
ENJOY BEING A GRANDMA...it's the Best.
Rejoicing with you, Peggy
