Lily-anne Hein (Young Cultivator of Joyce Hein #6071) has received a certificate of achievement in Garden Gate for earning a Beginner Level Grow Forth Merit Badge!

“I had to write about four local food businesses that made my life easier or more fun. I chose ADL (a local dairy), Lily-anne's Egg Business (mine), Belanger Raspberry Farm (neighbour), Angelika's Bakery (local German bakery). I have started my own food business - an egg business.

Completing the beginner badge has encouraged me to work towards the intermediate badge and make business cards for my egg business. We sometimes go to Angelika's bakery to get bread. At ADL we normally get our milk (until we got our cow). We also go to our neighbor's house to pick raspberries.”

“I have sewn buttons on pieces of fabric before. I have practiced a lot on clothes I have sewn and fixed loose buttons. I now have more than 200 buttons.

Now I sometimes fix buttons on my brothers stuffed monkey. His eyes fall out. A lot.”

Kelly Rowland (Young Cultivator of Rosemary Rowland #1392) has received a certificate of achievement in Farm Kitchen for earning the Beginner, Intermediate, and Expert Levels of the Mmm, Chocolate! Merit Badge!

“1. I read the books "The Official M&M Chocolate Candies History of Chocolate", "How It's Made - A Chocolate Bar" and "No Monkeys, No Chocolate".

2. I tried dark, milk and white chocolate with my eyes closed and guessed all three correctly! I did not like white chocolate.
I chose to make a no-fat chocolate cake.

3.I made a no-fat chocolate Bundt cake and everyone liked it. I watched the two different Willy Wonka and the Chocolate factory movies and liked them both.

I learned a lot about how chocolate is made and where it comes from.
There were a lot of recipes to pick but I wanted to make a cake. I picked a no-fat cake so chocolate can be healthy too.
I want to go to Hershey chocolate factory to see how kisses are made.”

Leanne Noble (Young Cultivator of Ambrosia Blasier-McCollum #7494) has received a certificate of achievement in Garden Gate for earning a Beginner Level Farmyard to Kitchen Merit Badge!

“Leanne is my best friend's niece, and has been coming to stay with me on the homestead while her aunt is working. She's a great help, and has been especially keen on helping with the chickens. Her favorite thing is a big breakfast made with the eggs she herself just collected. She has been learning about why we raise our own eggs and dairy, and enjoying the spoils of her hard work. I'm submitting this first assignment on her behalf, so that I can surprise her with her badge and certificate. After this she'll actively be working on her own.

It turned out great! She thinks these are the best eggs she's ever eaten, and always makes sure to take some home with her. I think it's safe to say she's hooked on organic.”

“While on our rustic cabin adventure in Southern Illinois, My cousin Zane and I took turns reading the new Diary of a Wimpy Kid book to each other. It's not a classic, but our Moms (Farmgirls) couldn't talk us into anything else. We enjoyed this time together and realized we both like being read to,and reading aloud to others.”

Madeline Yost (Young Cultivator of Emily Rose Yost #5070) has received a certificate of achievement in Each Other for earning an Expert Level Families Forever Merit Badge!

“When our Moms (Farmgirls) took my cousins and me and my baby sister to Southern Illinois on a Farmgirl Camping weekend, we didn't have cell service for our electronics. We earned the beginner and intermediate level Families Forever badge. After that, we decided to earn the Expert level badge by writing and performing a skit for our moms! My cousin Zane's character pretended to get in trouble at school, and I pretended to be his mom who had to discipline him.

Our moms laughed out loud! We even laughed so much we had to start over a couple times. We had so much fun that we continued making up different skits to entertain our sisters and our moms.”

“We went to the library. I asked the librarian politely to for an event calendar and a library card. She told me to wait 3 minutes and we went to play the video games and she called us back one at a time.

When it was my turn, she came and got me from the computer. She asked me a few questions. And then gave me my card so I could check out some books.

It turned out good. I have my own card now.”
