I am not a gardener, too old, but my catalog from Baker Creek arrived and those Sunflowers are outrageous! I ordered three different varieties. I have a little gas cultivator and I can still use it to stir up flower beds. There aren't many seeds in each packet 25-35 in each. But enough to share with 2 of my neighbors! I don't know why but I get excited when the gardening catalogs begin to arrive. This year I received 2 before Christmas.

Kathy, your sunflowers sound delightful. I wonder if you toast the seeds if they're taste like chocolate too . . . Every Kansas gal has to grow sunflowers, right?
hugs,

Yippee Kathy! I got my catalog too and just ordered 80 bucks of seeds! The chocolate sunflowers AND the hopi will go nicely in the garden. They are gorgeous on paper! I'm sure ours will be for real!! All the best! Happy growing!! :)

I ordered seeds from Baker Creek and the very next day the catalog arrived. The chocolate sunflowers look beautiful! Last year they ran out of a few of my favorites so this year I ordered as soon as the other catalogs started showing up.

I found some perennial sunflowers-Spring Hill Nursery, I think. They come as barefoot plants. Planted last Fall & excited to see what comes up this Spring!

I am so excited over the Sunflowers I hope Spring comes early, my neighbors are excited also. I too bought the Hopi because I feed the birds and they look like they would be fun to watch the Chickadees eat the seeds. Any thing to add sunshine to our days. And yes Jean, Every Kansas gal needs Sunflowers. lol Enjoy today it is 17' and a tad icy here in the middle of Kansas. Kathy

Dianna, sounds like you are going to be busy. Some how I always feel closer to God when I am digging, or planting in the earth.
Enjoy your seeds,
Kathy

I have never heard of Chocolate sunflowers. Will have to look them up. Hoping to put in a garden this year. A few things anyway. Will definitely need a fence around to protect it though. Lots of critters that may want to help themselves.
