I retired a couple of years ago, after 37 years of sitting at a desk. I decided to sign up for a chair yoga class, and after six months, I was feeling better enough to start riding my bicycle to yoga class. Some of the other students encouraged me to sign up for a ride across the state of Michigan, and even though I thought it would be impossible, I did it!

This year I rode across Ohio from Cincinnati to Cleveland and over to Toledo. I feel 10 years younger than I did when I retired.

Right now the weather is too cold here in Ohio for anything but short rides, and I haven't been out much. I'm looking forward to getting back out there.

Anyone else feel like riding a bicycle sets you free?

You shall eat the fruit of the labor of your hands - You shall be happy and it shall be well with you. -Psalm 128.2

I love riding my bike. Fortunately I live next to a bike/walking paths that are paved and connect to a couple of forest preserve trails by me. My youngest son rides with me when he's not in high school. My older two sons love biking when they aren't at work. It's great to hop on and enjoy the fresh air. I love being outside and pedaling for miles is right up my alley. I am hoping to buy an electric bike so I can get up the hills here without huffing and puffing. A bike trip across Michigan sounds like quite an adventure and I bet it was beautiful! Your trip through Ohio must have been great fun. Like you, living in the Midwest means winter bicycling may or may not happen, still I wouldn't want to live anywhere else!

Keep pedaling!

Congrats! That is quite an accomplishment!

I haven't taken my bike out since moving to Tennessee. I live in a very hilly area. there is a very big hill just as I leave the house and it's getting easier to climb now that I'm walking 3-4 times a week. I've joked that I'm just going to walk my bike up the hill and ride from there. I just might do that next nice day we get!

I like to bike. My bike is in need of repair or replacement though. I got it for my birthday quite a few years ago and only rode it twice. Then everyone started borrowing it. It now hangs in the garage needing lots of work on it. I have been walking everyday but is so cold out I sometimes do that inside. I have a regular trail I walk inside to get the exercise I need. I was doing a lot of sitting this year and put on lots of weight. Better eating habits and exercising, I also have done squats and pushups has helped my lose 12 lbs. I am shooting for 8 to 12 more lbs. I do feel better now and more energy. We have so much wind here in winter it would be hard to do the hills around on the bike or walking.

Congratulations Brenda! That is an amazing thing to accomplish! I haven't rode my bike in years. My son got a bike for Christmas so when spring time comes around I will be digging out my bike so I can ride with him. It will be a nice way for me to get some exercise!
