SCRAP HAPPY
Well, I’ve been reflecting on the year just ended and several things run through my mind – the pandemic is uppermost of course and all the challenges it brought to our daily lives . . . oh my goodness. Then my thoughts flitted to this chatroom and the joy it has brought me throughout this difficult year. The fun swaps that kept my creative juices flowing and especially being named Farmgirl of the Month for November. And then getting the courage to venture out with much encouragement and help from Winnie and Julie to actually host a swap myself – The Feed Sack Project . . . And then Winnie got named FGOTM for January 2021 – couldn’t happen to a better Farmgirl. She wrote a lovely acceptance post about “Making Do”. And all of a sudden. things started to come together for another swap as we start this hopefully happier new year.

In researching for the Feed Sack Project, I kept coming across this mantra from the Depression Era: “Use it up. Wear it out. Make it do. Do without.” – and the “Scrap Happy Swap” was born. We all have a scrap basket that we often threaten to just throw out and start fresh. But we don't and there it sits. So, I challenge each of you to be SCRAP HAPPY! Dig into that basket and make something adorable for your partner. What you ask? Well, how about a pot holder, a set of scrappy quilt blocks, use your scraps to decoupage a can or jar to hold stuff, book marks, a tiny doll and dress, a mini-quilt, coasters, a pieced journal cover, a fabric postcard, little fabric folded flowers, use the scraps as collage pieces in a paper art project, make something from scrappy yo-yo’s (Katmom can tutor you on how to make them) . . . need I go on? You get the idea.

OK, so here’s the deal. Please don’t sign up if you can’t follow through. I want each of the swapper partners to be SCRAP HAPPY too.
1. Sign up by January 16
2. Partners posted January 17
3. Make do . . . . No, I mean make IT – see above for some ideas
4. Mail by February 20
5. Tucks optional . . . Not purchased – “make do” from your crafty stash

Let's all be SCRAP HAPPY in 2021.

Could our "scrap happy" include other craft items, like yarn? I have a big stash of small bits left over from big projects, too good to throw away, but enough for small projects. Just wondering?

Brenda, Vanessa and Gail -- you're IN Farmgirls. And, Gail, of course you can use yarn or any other "stash" stuff on hand. Yarn bombing on a small scale. This is all about "making do" and creating with what you have. Definitely thinking outside the box is a good thing. Maybe someone wants to create from buttons, or old spools or ???

Hi Jean, Please sign me up... Our year end has been a little bumpy and I haven't wanted to commit to much, but the freedom with this swap is motivating to get crafting again... my heart and soul definately need some therapy! Thank you for hosting.

Mary, Marie, April and Julie -- Welcome to the Happy Scrappers swap.

Been doing a little scrappy surfing on the Internet this morning. And, boy oh boy, have I turned up some awesomely cute things for using fabric, yarn and paper scraps. Honestly we could go on forever. But my favorite project for the day has to be this marvelous tissue holder "couch". Check out the free tutorial at: http://jembellish.blogspot.com/2015/05/upcycled-denim-sofa-tissue-box-cover.html. And, of course, the way my little pea brain works, that segued into the thought that perhaps after this swap, we might do something with old jeans. So many ideas out there for that. What do you all think? Any interest?

Farmgirl hugs,
jean

I went to my back porch yesterday to put Christmas things away and low and behold when I opened the closet out there what did I find? 4 tubs of fabric, kits and etc! So your offer came just in time for me to join in on the fun. Oh I won't have to buy fabric for a year+. Please count me in on this project Jean.
Thanks for your inspiration.
