This was from Richard's Aunts several years ago. I have it in my back entry way. The crocheted piece on top was made by a MJ farmgirl and sent to me. Gotta love those MJ GIRLS. The machine works and in the drawer there is a really nice wood box with parts in. The box itself is a keeper. I should have put that in the picture.
Very summer like here. Been reading a lot and also playing with paper. I have three hat boxes full of bits and pieces of all sorts, it fun to play with.
Hope you are all enjoying summer.

Nice vintage sewing machine. Nancy Jo, I always enjoy seeing how you group items together. Very pretty.

I love the old sewing machines. That plant on top looks nice and healthy. Make sure the pot doesn't leak - I have two treadle machines with water rings on top because they were perfect places to put plants (before I got them).

I had an old treadle but it had a box cover instead of the fold down top. It always worked and now my daughter has it.

Nancy, what a wonderful antique sewing machine! My Grandmother had one that looks very similar. I sure wish I had it today because I would love to learn how to sew on a treadle machine.

That looks beautiful! You have inspired me. I have an old sewing machine stored because the top is peeling and needs to be replaced. I think it's time to refurbish!

Kat if anyone knows about sewing machines its you!!
Andrea, by all means fix up your sewing machine, sometimes a good furniture polish and something pretty to cover up the bad spots until it can be refinished might work.

Can anyone give pointers on how to start using an old singer sewing machine? My husband bought me one for our anniversary. I have no clue how to use it.

I have my mom's old Singer and I love to use it. Thinking about the things she made for us on it! The old ones are the best! They are well made and just need some TLC at times!

Angie, is your machine and electric or a treadle?

Oh Nancy my mom had one of those when I was growing up. It was black and she had it in our living room. I remember playing with the pedal as a kid. It was so beautiful. I believe my mom still has it. I’ll have to ask her. This really brought back memories.

Angie,
What does your bobbin look like? Is it round or what they call a bullet bobbin?
My treadle had a bullet bobbin and I didn't like it. Did yours come with a book?
If not you can download a book from the internet by putting in the model number which should be on the front part of your machine. Hope this helps.

My machine has a round bobbin. Unfortunately it didn't come with a book. Got one printed out. Tried to use it the first time and broke my needle. Now I'm a little nervous to use the again.

Angie, don't be nervous. You can get new needles for them. I was able to get the belts and bobbins and stuff on ebay for mine. Just need to make sure you match whatever you need with your model type to make sure it fits. Have fun with it!

Can you post a picture of the machine itself? If I can see what model it is I can tell you what needle to use. Most of the old Singers and many other brands use readily available needles.
