I have decided to host a swap for a sun bonnet or sun hat. You will have 1 partner each, and you will each make one sun hat or sun bonnet for your partner. I will take signups until July 15 and mailout date will be by July 31.

When partners are announced, you will contact your partner to exchange addresses. When you sign up to swap, please specify if you like or dislike a sun hat that has the flap that goes down your neck; I know there are some who do not like this. There are lots of free patterns on Pinterest and the Internet for different styles of hats - both sewn with fabric and crocheted. Here are just a few links:

Sewn:
https://zunessewingtherapy.com/sun-hat-with-free-sewing-pattern/
https://www.scatteredthoughtsofacraftymom.com/little-house-on-the-prairie-costume-bonnet-tutorial/2/
NOTE: This pattern says it is for an 8-11 year old girl. I just made this sun bonnet and added just a little to the length of the bonnet part (pattern says 9.25" and I made it 10.5") and used her way to measure for the size of the brim and the rest of the hat. It fits fine this way.
http://hunterweststaketrek.blogspot.com/2012/03/design-your-own-pioneer-duds.html (includes links to patterns for bonnet, skirt, and apron, if you are interested. LOL!)

Crocheted:
https://lovestitches.blogspot.com/2011/11/pattern-crochet-hat-for-my-mom.html
http://fabartdiy.org/crochet-summer-bazaar-sun-hat-crochet-free-patterns/

Link to Pinterest page of hats/sunbonnets:
https://www.pinterest.com/vickiemlutz/hats-and-bonnets/?utm_campaign=rdboards&e_t=08ab966aa40a460eae8298f7ea4ffc19&utm_source=31&utm_medium=2004&utm_content=812055445249867422&utm_term=4

I am also asking everyone not to include any tucks or extras; the only exception is if you want to include a favorite summertime recipe. This way the sun hat may fit into a padded envelope and be easier and less expensive to mail than a small box.

Postage rates are higher, and keep going up. People are staying home and not able to go to the post office as often; and some people are out of work and the more money we can save, the better.

I did a sun bonnet swap several years ago and still have the hat I received. In the heat we have been having in Texas, it has come in very handy. They do keep you cooler, too.

I hope many of you will join in.

Partners:
Linda (quiltee)and Grace (Katmom)
Marilyn (TexasGran) and Judith (StitchinWitch)
Rebecca (BeckyT) and Hannah (GinnyBelle)
Please email your partner for her address. I can't wait to see all the pretty sun hats! Thank you all for joining.

Farmgirl hugs,

I still have my sun bonnet made by Judith Licktig from your other swap. I suppose I should say that I like a split bonnet with the ruffle or skirt that covers my neck... Like the Pioneer women wore. But I also like a Sun bonnet with no neck covering. So either one works for me.
Sign me up please.

This sounds like fun and practical -- please sign me up.
I don't like a flap in the back -- makes me feel hotter.

Linda, do you have a pattern for the surgical head of hair wraps that nurses wear in the operating room.
Bay will be going to work in the OR, pretty soon. I thought perhaps I could make some for her.

Yes, Marilyn. I just need to find it. I made several for my DIL to use when she managed a fast food restaurant.

Yes, I also have a pattern for the men's surgical caps. Do you want that, too? I can send directions for both.

Linda that might be helpful to have both. Bay is so tiny. Other than her height.

Is Bay's hair long or short? You can't tuck much hair into the man's cap style. The women's is poofy with lots of room for hair. Lol!

Marilyn -
Not too many gal nurses wear the surgical caps mostly because of the longer hair, I think. The directions for the poofy one are pretty easy without a pattern. I'll send them to you.

Just a note to everyone: please check the patterns before you work on them. One of them I was looking at on the copy I downloaded did not have some of the information - it was fuzzy or something. I had to go back to the website to get the whole thing.

I am working on sunbonnets. I am making one for myself to check the pattern, and then I'll make one for my partner. This is always a fun swap. I'm looking forward to seeing what everybody does.
