I have never grown eggplant before. A friend gave us some last year and we love it. I have been putting our garden in and would like to grown some. Any tips, please?
Kay I don't know what part of OK you are in but I'm in northeast Texas 30 miles south of the Red River. I grew eggplant for the first time last year. I transplanted plants from on-line nursery. They grew but not one made. I knew others in different areas of northeast TX who planted eggplants and they all failed. We all decided it was not a good year for eggplants.
Following info from Neil Sperry's Complete Guide to Texas Gardening 1982:
Eggplant grows best once the soil is warm. Loose garden soil containing a good portion of organic matter is best, as is a sunny location. Fertilize eggplant monthly with a high-phosphate garden fertilizer. Keep the plants well watered to prevent off-flavored fruit.

I live in NE Pennsylvania and never have luck with eggplant. I got so few, it isn't worth it. I didn't plant any this year. I hope someone can give some advice because eggplant is a favorite of mine!
