I love everyone's projects. Great job. I am crocheting squares trying to get back into crocheting again.

I am still working on that 4th of July pillow. I have 2 of the 4 front squares done and have started the 3rd. Really hoping to have it finished before the end of this month.

I have been in such a Machine Embroidery frenzy recently that I've decided to take a break and get back to creating handmade books for a while. I've spent a few days in the studio cleaning up my sewing mess and making room for my up coming bookmaking mess. LOL. I'll probably start on a Reverse Piano Hinge Binding book tomorrow. Then, I have an online class starting July 25. We'll be making five different styles of accordian books in five days. Sounds like fun. So don't be surprised if I join Katmom in being MIA for a while. BTW, are there any other handmade bookmakers out there? . . . . Just to be clear . . . . not the horse racing kind, I mean the paper making kind. . . .

Several of us have fallen love with junk journals. Does that count?

The junk journals do sound interesting. I am going to start gathering junk for one.

Of course, Judith, that's exactly how I started out in bookmaking.

Yes, making junk journals counts! The title is what you are working on.

Sometimes I have to take a break from whatever craft I've been doing and work on something else. Fortunately I started out with alot of papercrafting supplies before I started working on the journals.

I have a lot of "ephemera" (my shopping bag full of miscellaneous stuff) and several drawers of artsy supplies from my
ATC making so it is making it really easy to morph into junk journals. I knew there was a reason I saved every card I have ever received.

So Judith and Denise -- Do you exchange them or just make them for yourself?

I have only made one. Just got into it. This one is a gift. I think I am going to make them for my oldest granddaughters for birthdays.

When a gal pal from South Carolina got me started on junk journals a few moons ago, we did an exchange that was kind of fun. She chose little mini notebooks like something from the dollar store and decorated 5 or so pages in both books. Then she sent them both back to me and I decorated more pages. We did that until the books were full. Then she kept one and I kept the other. That was a hoot and a very good introduction. As the books got too bulky, we even tore blank sheets out to minimize that problem. The books were small so it was not an overwhelming project.

Krista how pretty!

Jean, I have learned how to make them from scratch and binding the pages. Such a relaxing craft and I love all the things that can be added. Snippets of fabric, lace, pretty tags, envelopes. I even found poems that I can resize to fit in tiny envelopes. I took an online class when I started. Free stuff and tutorials. I'll see if I can find the link and post on the swap thread.

Jean -- Since I'm on my first one I haven't exchanged any yet. My gal friend and I get together now and then to work on our books.

I was playing with Fence Rail blocks and made a bunch. Then I decided instead of making a big one, I'd make 2 smaller quilts. It's been slow going with a festival this weekend that I need to cover, but I'll get cracking on the other one soon.
This afternoon I took pictures of the Miss Augusta Riverfest Regatta.

The 2 gals on the left are local. I just do my best to be a classy woman-of-a-certain-age (not Stone Age!). I had it easy, our professional photographer and my boss took the baby show pictures.

Yes, Winnie. It will be a flag pillow. I have the blue piece finished and now started on the back. It’s slow coming but I’m determined to finish instead of turn it into a UFO! I see other things I want to make but I refuse to start anything else until it’s finished.

What could be better than enjoying the summer afternoon with a glass of wine and stitching while watching old episodes of Dark Shadows?

That looks like some fun stitching.

The old 1960s Dark Shadows?? I remember watching that with my son who was very young at the time (he was 59 yesterday). His favorite character was Barnabas Collins, probably because he could fly out windows. I may also mention that it was really strange to hear my son called "Grandpa" at the Father's Day picnic. I'm not that old am I? Where has the time gone...
