Since I can now see enough to do some sewing I'm making a Dresden plate center for the quilt of the month in my sewing group.

Love everyone's projects. I am working on learning how to use my new sewing machine. I do have an older one, but the new one comes with 600 decorative stitches, so I want to try some of them out. I think I am going to make some easy corner fabric bookmarkers to start with.

hugs,
Marcy

Oh Marcy, congrats on the new machine. What kind did you get? If you really want to get acquainted with it, consider making a stitch book of all your stitches. The screen shots and pix in the manual don't do them justice. You HAVE to see them stitched out. YES, it will take you a while to do all 600+ stitches. But trust me, it's worth it. I keep mine in plastic sheet protectors in a 3-ring binder right at my sewing area and refer to it all the time. The time spent sewing out and labeling all my stitches (also over 600) was well worth it and has repaid me many times over.
hugs,
jean

Hmmm, need 1 more piece and then I have to decide what color to use for the center

Should I do the center in red or pink? Or should I be daring and maybe use a bold contrasting color?

I've been thinking it would be fun to give it that pop of color if I use a blue color fabric for the center. White is just blassay..

Also, sewing the tiny 1 1/2" pieces to make another Dresden Plate thread spool coaster..
Working with such tiny pieces is a challenge... Sew... I sew the tiny pieces on a strip of tissue paper like a chain,, helps to keep them in order and leave a bit of thread between each piece instead of sew, stretch and cut each piece separately. At least it works for me and my old eyes.

These are the minis ..made from feed sack scraps

Looks like maybe you just need to join those two ends not add another petal . . . How about a yellow center??? That would make a really pretty pillow top Katmom. Unless, of course, you want some more pieces cut out to make a quilt . . . that's doable. LOL.

Jean, you are so determined to get me into more crafting mischief!
I actually finished the pink D P., And now to figure out how to use it.I am thinking it would make a cute 36x36" or 42x42" table topper,, but then I would need to place 1/4 circle of D.P. wedges at each corner... Hmm thinking... But a deco pillow would look cute too! Hmmm.

Oh, what a cute idea for a table topper. I've got a stack of 1/2 yard pieces of all that fabric, so cutting more is very doable. How many to you need for those corners? Now, you've got me thinking, I want one too. I made one Dresden plate (same set of fabrics) and never did anything else with it except to bead the center with little tiny gold seed beads -- that looks pretty neat

Grace -- I love how the little feedsack spool coaster turned out. Did you use felt for the center? No need to worry about an ilet (sp?) stitch if you do Now I gotta make one too. Sew cute, but sew tiny . . . LOL it's a challenge . . . .

BTW if you make many things with the little holes -- I just got the punch tool from OESD thinking it might be one of those unnecessary frills we get now and then. NOT!! It's an awesome tool.

Hi Jean,

Thank you for the great idea. It does sound time consuming, but it also sounds worth it. I think if I work on it a little at a time it won't be so daunting.

Denise, love the idea for the dresses, I'm sure the little girls who get them are going to love them. Please tell Jessie I said hi. I haven't seen her on here in ages.

Grace, love the coasters. Very pretty, and what a great way to use up scraps.

hugs,
Marcy

Yes, Marcy, just do a little at a time. I think when I did mine, I just took a half hour or so each day and worked on it. Then I went on to my current project. Took a few weeks. But I really learned a lot about my machine in the process. What kind of machine do you have?

hugs,
jean

I am working on my sewing space. I found EXACTLY the type of cabinet I wanted out by the trash. I cleaned it up and tightened the screws and now I have the storage space I want.

I still have some stuff to put in place.

Working on something for the St. Patrick's swap. Will post a photo after my partner receives it. I have been getting back into sewing and feel a quilt coming on. Lol

I had such fun today, learning how to make greeting cards with my embroidery machine. I had some eyeball issues sew didn't want to work on anything major that I might screw up. But I figured I could wreck inexpensive notecards without too much trauma. They came out sooooooo neat . . . . you'll be seeing one in the St. Pat's swap and probably another in the Feedsack goodies I send to Julie (TreeLady). Great project.

All of the Dresden plates are so pretty!
Jean, I love your idea of making swatches of the stitches. I'm going to have to do that. I agree, you can't really tell what they're going to look like from the tiny, little picture on the machine. And ripping those decorative stitches out if it's not what you want is NO fun!
