Oh how I forgot how wonderful the house smells when baking brewad!
My old Welbuit Bread machine finally gave up the ghost... and like my Dehydrator,, I did not replace it...
I finally decided to purchase a replacement on line.. My new one I found at a reasonable price.. AND.. go figure.. can't find Bread Flour anywhere,, not even on Line! none on Amazon, Bob's RM, King Arthur,, etc.. AND... No Yeast!! Oh my stars! So,, I did find Bob's Red Mill all purpose flour,, and swapped my daughter some organic flour (I happen to have in my pantry before the 'stay at home')... so I modified my recipe and added a tad more sugar, salt and yeast... My bread rose perfect and is baking.. oh how my house smells yummy!
I spoke with the clerks at 2 markets in our lil town,, and they said,, they haven't been able to keep yeast nor bread flour on the shelves,, even with the 1 per customer limit! How crazy is that? but,, if they are making bread for their family,, then,, good for them.. after all, homemade bread is a treat and a lost art...

Hi Gracie Grace, I wanted to make banana bread today so I could use up some over ripe bananas. All I needed was baking soda. BAKING SODA! I couldn't find nary a box anywhere. Really people?
I ended up using baking soda I keep in the medicine cabinet for teeth whiting as I am an avid java junkie. The bread turned out good, yum!

Your bread looks delicious and I bet your house smells divine! All the stoves in my area have been out of flour (any type except for the gluten free kind) and other baking products. I am stretching what I have in the pantry for now. I told my husband and son that baked goodies will be a rare treat for now. Thankfully there's plenty of fresh organic fruit in the stores for us to enjoy instead. Who knew there were so many bakers besides us farmgirls?

Nancy,, isn't it crazy! who Hoards baking soda and yeast??? lol!
Dawn,, I was surprised to see the shelves full of corn bread mix and pancake mix,, but no plain ol' flour,,, only the Gluten free, Oh, I did see a lot of almond flour ... but I think you have to have flour to mix it with..
We can only hope people are finding their inner baking roots....

I love the smell that fresh made bread gives to the house. I don't use a bread machine but I have one that mixes and kneads the dough. All I have to do is let it rise, shape the loaves and let it rise in the pan. I can get four loaves out of a batch. I just love homemade bread. I haven't had trouble getting flour but I grind muy own while wheat berries for bread. I use regular flour for everything else. You are right Grace it is hard to find yeast and flour. I buy in bulk so I am using what I had before this started.

I ordered yeast from King Arthur Flour last week and it arrived today. So if you still need yeast, check their website. Still no flour though.

Oops, never mind they are out again. But keep checking the KAF website, it may be in stock again suddenly.

english muffins are so simple. they are baked on a griddle at 300 degrees. mix em up, let em rise, roll them out and cut. Let set for a bit and put on the griddle. 15 min. per side.

Same here Grace! My husband wanted some bundt bread and I was out of yeast. He searched many stores and couldn’t find any. Then a week later he spotted a tiny package and scooped it up. It’s so crazy how everyone is out of flour, yeast, etc. but I do hope that means everyone is making delicious homemade foods for there family during this time. Yummy bread smells in the house can bring a family together.

I am so happy that I bought a pound of yeast earlier this year. I bake most of our bread and was running low so stocked up the last time I was at Co-op. They have the most wonderful bulk food section and the very besest fresh ground peanut butter. With the ban on bulk foods I am going to be missing it.

Judith... ? ban on bulk food??? in Cali or everywhere? Yikes!
I did manage to order a 1lb bag of yeast... it is due on the 28th, fingers crossed.. I will store it in the freezer to preserve it.
ok, Michele,, I am going to have to try my hand at English muffins.
I do occasionally make Indian Fry Bread,, but am trying to get away from to much fried foods...

Yup -- bulk food bins are all covered here in Sacramento county at least. I think it is statewide. Makes sense when you think about it. I keep my yeast in the fridge and have it work well even after a year. Has anyone tried Carbalose? I just bought some but haven't tried it yet. It's a low carb flour substitute.
