Last year, I wrote an applique sewing tutorial on my blog about how to make a Teal Pumpkin Project Banner for your house. My son is allergic to hazelnuts and he's also autistic--meaning he has some big sensory particularities with food--which is why I knew about the project to begin with.

Well, I received my MJF magazine yesterday and saw that the writing team featured the project to help spread allergy awareness, so I thought I should share the tutorial I wrote in case others wanted to show they were a Teal Pumpkin safe house for trick-or-treaters!

I dug mine out to hang up with my other fall decor, and it's a little bland, so I think I might stitch "Non-Food Treats Here" or maybe something more clever around the pumpkin, haha!

You can find the tutorial and pattern for the applique here if you're interested: https://www.cinderellasews.com/2018/10/teal-pumpkin-project-applique-for.html

Does anyone else have cute teal pumpkin pics they've made for past Halloweens?

(and sorry for the annoying watermark on my photo. people have stolen my photos for their websites before, so now I have to do that )

What a great idea, Ashley. I haven't heard of the teal pumpkin project but my sister who lives in a big city and gets hundreds of kids always gets big bags of plastic toys and non -food things to hand out. The number of kids we got dwindled to a few uncostumed kids bigger than me so we just quit handing out anything. Dad lived on top of a hill so he handed out the big size Milky Ways to reward any kid climbing that hill.

I had heard of the teal pumpkin project. We have a couple grands who have issues and this is perfect for them.
It was nice to see the article when I opened my magazine from MaryJane. It's so important to make people aware and I am grateful the article does that.
Where we are we don't have trick or treaters anymore but we go around with the grandkids sometimes.

Ashley, your banner is beautiful! I have heard of this idea before, but haven't seen anyone around me put it into play. I do agree that the word needs to get spread so everyone can enjoy the holiday. Since my kids are in the trick or treating stage, we aren't home to hand anything out, but I love the idea of moving away from food when we start staying home again.

We are at the tick-or-treating stage too, haha! We always leave a little cauldron of goodies on the porch though :)

Not sure about the link trouble? It's worked when I've clicked on it? But if you are having trouble, you can click on my blog link in my signature and just search "teal pumpkin" and the tutorial will pop up

Also, thank you everyone for your kind words about my banner! It was definitely a fun one to make (and an excuse to buy some lovely teal quilting fabric

I am truly intrigued with the Teal blue pumpkins... we live out in the country so we do not get trick-o-treaters,,, I do keep candy on hand,, just in case...

I think I just might make a teal pumpkin banner for the door and will hit the Dollar store and buy some non-edible goodies,,, just in case we get a surprise munchkin knocking on our door.

We live in town, but I think because so many of our neighbors are older, we don't get many either! Especially since it has rained every Halloween for the last 6 years **facepalm** It's fun to leave a little something on the porch while we go around though :)
