10/23/19: Well, I've been using CPAP for almost 4 weeks with some improvement in SOME symptoms. I'm grateful for this. As far as the Vestibular/balance issues, I don't know if the CPAP will help that or not. It's a different "animal" than the sleep apnea in most ways.

CATARACTS: Saw my ophthalmologist the end of August for followup on glaucoma. Pressures are up a little in both eyes. Still in normal range but higher than he says is "ideal". So I started a 2nd eye drop, a different one than the one I've been using. Use the new one in the morning and continue with other in the evening. I was disappointed with this but praying the eye drop regimen does the trick.

So, I've had two medical "surprises" come my way this year:
- SLEEP APNEA
- GLAUCOMA!

THANKS FOR YOUR PRAYERS!!
CJ

09/17/19: UPDATE: Due to a cancellation at the pulmonologist I was able to see him yesterday! He went over study results with me and I DO HAVE SLEEP APNEA, worst when I am in REM sleep which is the sleep a person needs the most!! I have to do a 2nd sleep study, all wired up again but with CPAP treatment through the night to see how I respond so dr. can have info for the right treatment settings, etc. That is scheduled for next Tuesday, the 24th. NOT looking forward to that but if it is necessary then I'll power through it.
CONTINUED PRAYERS ARE APPRECIATED! THANK YOU!!

09/07/19: SLEEP STUDY is done! It went okay. I slept okay but would have loved to have slept better. Nice, quiet, cozy room with excellent technologist (a gal). I had wires and leads ALL OVER! She told me that I did quit breathing a LOT of times while on my back, did better on side. BUT I have to wait until appt. with dr. to get details of results and discuss plan. It's been a rough week and I ASK FOR CONTINUED PRAYERS!!
THANKS SO MUCH!!!
CJ

09/01/19 UPDATE: My eyes are healed and my vision is better than it has been for a long time. I can tell there is some glaucoma damage in the left eye, BUT with the cataract surgery it is SOOOOOOO MUCH better. Glaucoma drops in both eyes are keeping the pressures down and the glaucoma from progressing.

I saw the pulmonologist on Aug. 22nd, he believes that sleep apnea MAY be causing some of my symptoms. He was very informative, "patient friendly" and talked to me like I was a person. I am scheduled for a sleep study this coming Tuesday night, Sept. 3rd. I'm not looking forward to that but if it will give some information that will indicate what's going on and I can be treated and FEEL BETTER well . . . let's get on with it.

PRAYERS FOR ME ON THE SLEEP STUDY would be appreciated. THANK YOU!!
HUGS TO ALL!

CJ

07/27/19 UPDATE ON CATARACT SURGERY: Surgery went well and my vision is great. Still have some adjusting and healing to do, follow the LOTS of eyedrops regimen and see surgeon on Aug. 2nd for one-week postop followup.
Had some minor issues with the sedative the anesthesiologist gave me to "help me relax" but I think my vestibular disorder, being hungry and dehydrated from not being able to eat or drink prior to surgery just compounded the issue. On the mend!
PRAYERS HAVE BEEN SO APPRECIATED!!
THANK YOU!!
CJ

Dear Farmgirl Sisters,
I haven't been on the Connection much lately and it's pretty much all because of continued and worsening health struggles. But I'd like to come asking for your prayers right now.

~ Cataract surgery on my right eye this coming Thursday, July 25th!
I had seen my optometrist in February who referred me for cataract consult which happened in early April. At that time the ophthalmologist told me I also had glaucoma, worse in the left eye than the right, but pressures in both eyes were abnormal. So, he wanted to treat that glaucoma before any surgery, which we did for three weeks and then I had cataract AND glaucoma surgery on the left eye on May 9th. My eye has done well, more vision restored than I expected and I'm grateful for all of that! Dr. wanted to wait until my one-month post-op followup on left eye before deciding what to do about right eye. At that time we decided on cataract surgery but he didn't think it would be necessary to do glaucoma surgery. Yes, I have glaucoma in the right eye but is considerably less serious and it is believed glaucoma drops will manage it in both eyes from here on out.

SOOOOO, PLEASE pray for the surgery to go well, my preparation will be smooth (not eating for a long period of time which is hard for me) and for speedy healing and restored vision.

~My primary care physician referred me for neurology consult for evaluation of symptoms that are NOT ESTABLISHED as part of my vestibular disorder. Neurologist is doing evaluation for Parkinson's and/or sleep apnea. Still have sleep consult and possible sleep study to go through . . . UGH!!!

~I was diagnosed TWO YEARS ago with a vestibular disorder which is basically balance (significant) issues, lightheadedness/dizziness/vertigo, lots of nausea, extreme fatigue, etc., etc, ETC. I have been evaluated by two specialists for this who believe I have damage to my inner ears caused by a viral infection. Only thing I can do is management, vestibular rehab therapy, etc. This has been a VERY REAL CHRONIC and DEBILITATING DISORDER. Probably will never go away! I have some good days and some really nasty days.

I don't want to get into the nitty gritty of all of this and I AM seeking medical advice, care and treatment. The ONLY thing that is successful at this point is the eye care, surgery and treatment!

I just would ask for you farmgirls to PRAY for me . . . it's just been going on for so many years and I haven't been able to find anything that REALLY HELPS! I AM SOOOOOOOOOOOOO VERY, VERY, VERY WEARY!!

With my heartfelt HUGS, LOVE and GRATITUDE!
CJ

Prayers for you friend in your health issues. It can get overwhelming at times. Thank you for sharing with us. Sometimes just talking about it to someone else can make the load seem lighter. Please keep us informed on what is going on. Once again, you will be in my thoughts and prayers. Hugs to you.

I can't imagine how I would cope with vision problems, compounded with vestibular and other unknown problems. I will pray for healing and good days for you.

CJ,

I am so very sorry that you are going through so many health issues. I will be keeping you in my thoughts and prayers. I was diagnosed with a pulmonary embolism, which is a blood clot in my lungs in March. It's been a struggle. I was in a lot of pain but it's finally getting better. Please keep in touch and let us know how you are doing.

love and hugs,
Marcy

Dear CJ, You are in my prayers. I am hoping with some improved vision your dizziness will improve. Maybe the signals in the brain for balance will improve with better vision. My brother in law has vertigo so bad he has had to sleep in a recliner chair to keep his head up for years. I have vertigo and it improved somewhat when I started using a small night light so when I wake up during the night and open my eyes I have something to focus on in the distance. I can not ride in a car as a passenger and need the focusing while driving looking out. I cannot watch television unless the room is well lit because of the flickering of the frames. You have such a severe form I cannot imagine. It is so debilitating. I will ask forthright for Divine intercession from the Lord for you. You are in my thoughts and prayers. Annie

Absolutely, prayers to you CJ! Vertigo is the worst. My hubs has Menieres, and it is random, but when it strikes it is misery. I pray that you find some short/long term comfort. You are such a bright light and deserve to shine.

CJ I noticed where you lived in Colorado and if you still live there you are at such a high altitude. I am not able to go even for a short visit to altitudes above 4000 feet and when I learned this and stopped traveling to the high mountains or flying I improved immensely. I even ended up in the emergency room in Colorado with a whopper of a headache and nausea. I ended up with altitude sickness in just a couple of hours visiting one of the national parks in Utah. The medical there told me you have to go down the mountain now! Storms and barometric pressure does effect me greatly. I imagine moving may be out of the question but you could do an experiment and go to lower elevation and see if it makes a difference. This thought "where does she live" came to me after I prayed for you, so it may be "heaven sent" and I am compelled to share it with you. I would be so ill at over 6900 feet elevation. Perhaps your doctor can answer if you would do better at a lower elevation. The sleep study will be such important information. I have sleep apnea. Also, I discovered I had the genetic anomaly where I am unable to convert folic acid so my body builds up homocysteine and that leads to all kinds of health issues, especially heart, vascular, muscular, nerve endings, etc. So I now use natural folate and stay away from foods and vitamins that have folic acid in them or added by law such as in baked goods like breads, crackers, and even cereals. I use the methylated B vitamins since I have the MTHFR C677T genetic anomaly. I am so much better since learning this and implementing the change in diet and vitamins. I am sorry to go on about your personal issues but I suffered similar problems and it took me ten years and over five specialists to help figure it out. I did the genetic testing on my own and marched in to the offices and they were like, Oh yeah, well that makes sense. Aaaargh! Okay, I'm done elevating this whole thing but just wanted to give you some more things to take to your doctors with and when info just pops into my head after prayer I heed the message. Hugs, Annie

Keeping good healing thoughts for you . I hope the cataract surgery will help with the vertigo.
I had constant vertigo and ocular migraines for four months before my stroke -- it was a bad time. High altitudes always gave me problems; something about barometric pressure changes.

ANNIE . . . I was going to send you an email but it's not an option through this Connection. If you'd like you can send me an email through the Connection and I could reply.

Just briefly thought, I live at 7000 ft. elevation. I don't really notice much issue with elevation when we go to the mountains (elevations of 10,000-11,000). I go to my daughter's in Glendale, Arizona at an elevation of around 1100 feet and don't really feel much different. I do, however, find that riding in a car for long periods "messes" with me as does a lot of other activity and movement.

Anyway, I appreciate you sharing . . . would love to chat about it more via email.
THANKS!
CJ

Heartfelt thoughts your way, CJ. I'm so sorry to hear you're ailing--such a hard, impossible pull. I'm looking at that snapshot in time on a postcard you sent of Robin, you, me, and Meg in 2011. We were such youngsters back then. Good memories for when things aren't as carefree as they were back then.

Lori . . . your prayers and concern mean a tremendous amount to me. THANK YOU!!!!
Each day brings struggles, some days are more difficult than others. Today was a pretty good day . . we were able to go to the mountains and enjoy God's creation and some peaceful scenery. I'm on day two of preop eye drop preparations for my surgery on Thursday. Tomorrow will be just doing what I need to do around the house before surgery day and being on postop restrictions (no lifting heavy objects, no bending no stooping, etc.) for a week.
I think of you and your struggles as well and will continue to pray!
THANK YOU AGAIN!
GOD'S BLESSING!
