I harvested some of my peppermint and after much deliberation decided to dry it the old fashioned way and hung it up to dry. So far I only have 3 small bunches. Tomorrow I will be hanging up my chocolate mint and my spearmint. I love the smell of the mint when I harvest them. It brings back so many sweet memories of my grandma. It always seemed to me that smelled like peppermint.

Got to try a new way once, anyways. If it works out do it again, if not try a different method. It will look fantastic while hanging and smell wonderful. The best part, no cost!!!

I love seeing the mints hanging up to dry. I am getting ready to pick some more peppermint to get hung up. This is my first year for raising mint at this house so my harvest won't be as large.

Do any of you have fresh mint recipes besides using it as a garnish? I love mint and have two plants flourishing on my back deck.

Thanks,

Dawn I make mint sugar. Dry the mint leaves and after they are dried layer in sugar. Great in tea, baking, and sprinkled on cookies.

Minced fresh mint is good in fruit salads.
I have cooked it with greens. Mint goes good with lamb; chicken; and pork.

Mint can be added to jelly; preserves; and jams to add flavor.

For a pretty drink garnish freeze mint leaves in ice cube trays. Cover with water or tea/coffee or fruit juice.

I'm sure if you think on it you can come up with some ideas of your own.

What a wonderful idea. I never heard of mint sugar but it sounds like something that would be yummy in hot or cold tea. I'll have to give it try as I am drying some peppermint.

I'm so happy that I will be able to get some more of the chocolate mint to harvest. I will have a lot more of the peppermint. There is an orange mint and a lemon mint that I would like to find. I have looked for some around here but can't find any.

Hi Sisters, I made ice cream infused with a sugar simple syrup made with chocolate mint and it was divine! No more store bought mint ice cream for me. Annie

Annie, I never thought about making a simple syrup with chocolate mint or any other mint. Now I have one more thing to make this fall when I do my big herb harvest.

Annie, that ice cream sounds delicious. I would love to try that. Do you use an ice cream freezer or is it the kind you can put in the icebox freezer? I don't have an ice cream freezer and tend to go with the recipes that I can put right into the icebox freezer
