Who Remembers These...
We called them, Knitting Nancys ..... not sure what the real name for them is...

my grandgirlie wanted to 'craft' with my yarns, after spotting my dish rag crocheting basket..so I pulled out this,,,,
It took me a few attempts to get it started,,, that is how long it has been since I picked this up to use...yes, we are talking years... lots of years... lol!

Any one else still 'knit' with these, still have theirs?

When I was in grade school, we put nails onto the top of a wooden spool and made cords. We called them spool knitters. I still have one with 5 nails on the top.

Spool knitters,, oh my, and 5 pegs..
I got my very 1st one when I was 11years old,, we were living in New Britian, Conn., at the time.. I remember making 'straps' for my little hand sewn dolly purses....
For a shy little girl, it was the perfect project during those long New England winters.

I had a really, really, really, etc. long one that I didn't know what to do with. I eventually took it apart. I used to (and still do) use it to keep my hands busy and to marvel at the process.

hehehe, up we never go backwards in age. Don't know that i would want to anyways. Looking ahead to life!! My mom would make up little embroidery projects for us to learn on. Oh ya and we used to have to iron handkerchiefs. Oh my i still use them when doing farm work, but i don't iron them anymore.

Michele, I always keep a hankie tucked into my handbag... and I luv hand washing them and pressing them flat to dry, then iron them with lavender spritz.

Knitting Nancy! I remember my mom being scout leader and we had a dad who made these for all of us like Marie said, with spools and little nails. Those cords they make can also be made on regular double pointed knitting needles...they are called “I-Cords”. Easy and fun to make. I use them for all sorts of things, Iike hand bag straps, woven to gather to make scarves and belts, and other crafts.

I haven’t seen a little Knitting Nancy in years!

Like Marie, we used to make them with a spool and nails. I remember making a long chain and then wondering what to do with it!

Katmom---post something to cheer me up. Too many days of rain here. I feel like Robert E. Lee when he got stuck on Sewell mountain in WV with days and days or rain. Dawn---I spend many days in the open air which is why my house is full of cobwebs and dust---LOL. Why stay in when there is so much to do outside.

Love this. So funny and true. I have been thinking of putting a bed on the porch and sleeping out in the summer.
