In May a finch couple built a nest in my new fuschia basket hanging right next to my back door. Busy door. Eggs hatched quickly and the two parents chirped at us constantly from then on. We had to water the plant around the edges being ever so careful not to drown the two babies. Husband found one baby dead and removed it. A few days later with a lot of racket, the remaining baby must have fallen out of the nest and was clear across our yard trying to fly. It only had its fluffy birth feathers. Next morning, it was gone. Parents screeching for hours.
Next thing, they are back in the hanging plant nesting again. We removed the original nest. Found three eggs. Very soon, three babies last week. Now they are gone. Probably fell out, one following the others. Are these really dumb birds?????

Poor bird parents. They aren't having much luck this year are they?

poor little things. Makes you wonder what the problem was. I am sure it was fun to watch and then sad.

I don't think they are dumb---just unlucky. A lot of baby birds just don't make it---that is nature. I hate it when they hatch and something happens to them.
