Grace---Don't you know that wine is for sissies? We drink moonshine here in West Virginia. It is so fun to sit barefoot under a tree smokin a corn cob pipe and wearing a big old straw hat and sip on a pint mason jar full of good old corn likker. LOL.

Gosh----I forgot to tell you that I was so stupid in high school and college that my two best friends fathers were actually moonshiners and that is how they made a lot of their income. I always wondered why I was not allowed in their basement. As a product of dirt farmers I did not suspect any of this. I have finally got a clue about things and let live to all. LOL

So many farmers grew corn in the hills. It was hard work to plow the sides of steeply sloping hills. Transporting the corn in to town was also very difficult and expensive. The best prices could be gotten by processing the corn into moonshine and transporting it is less bulky containers. However, because the product was alcohol, it was steeply taxed thus cutting any profits from the corn. Therefore it became an underground activity. Lowell (DH) sings a song called Copper Kettle about it. "Get you a copper kettle, get you a copper coil, make up some corn mash, never more you'll toil."

Marie===you are right, there was corn planted on the sides of their hills. I always wondered why they liked corn so much as there was no other gardening being done. I guess I'm not the sharpest tool in the shed. I think because my grandfather was a farmer---he never worked a job ---just farmed---that I just took growing things like corn as being for food. Only now at 61 have I finally began to get a clue. I was always clueless.

Jana - I love the bath mat and picture. I'm going to try and find patterns for the bathmat.

UPDATE: On Pinterest there IS directions for making the bathmat, but she also had some problems she talks about in the "tutorial." I may put this one off for a while or make a cork trivet for the tabletop instead. LOL!

Hey Grace, we finally got some "good stuff" that had corks not just screw off caps. Need some corks?

Linda I have never tried cork art, but I like the idea of making a trivet too. Let me know if you find a good tutorial, I will also check out pinterest.

Krista.... a mess!
lolololol!
Actually I prepped some corks for a little tray.....and they are still sitting where I left them...hahaha!

I did make a few key holders...using glue to secure the washers and eye pins in place. Then blinged them out... I gave them as gifts.
They are quick easy gifts to make.

I like the key holder idea! Did you just glue the bling on? Or stick them into the cork? I think it would cute to put their name on it.
