My name is Barbara and I live in southern West Virginia. My farm is named Rock Bottom Farm because it is so rocky and we are always broke. It is 172 acres---mostly hilly, with only fifty acres of flat land. In WV a hollow is called a holler. A holler is really just a valley. Our land had sat idle since 1958 and the old farm that was here was totally gone. We have made a nice looking place here in our twenty years on the land, but still so much to do. It is a hobby farm. We have a donkey, some goats, chickens and a rabbit. We also have seven dogs and seven cats. Never a dull moment here. I love gardening, sewing and canning. I also love antiques. My husband and I have been married forty years. We make a great team and we love the country life.

Thanks for all these nice welcomes. I do love MJF and I am learning my way around. I live in a very isolated place---1 and 2/10 mile down a dirt road. I am in the woods and alone while my husband is at work. I love it, but sometimes it feels lonely even though the animals are great company. All my family has passed on, but I am blessed to have one good local friend. By becoming a farmgirl member I feel like I have several new friends.

Hi Barbara, sounds like a dream life to me. I joined when I lived in Texas for 4 years away from my family. It was a big help with my loneliness. Welcome!

Welcome to the farm Barbara, look forward to getting to know you, and wanting to hear all about your farm. For me personally I want to hear about the donkey, I love them but don't have one. Yet. Hugs Karla

What can I say about my donkey except that he is very spoiled and ornery at times. He is a mammoth donkey---about as big as a small horse. My neighbor rescued him and gave him to me. He is sweet and loving and he loves to be petted. Last fall he kept escaping from his barn and getting into my goat barn. We finally just let him stay with the goats all winter and he loves it. They are social beasts---they need other animals to be with or lots of attention from humans. He brays so loud when he is hungry that my neighbors can hear him one half mile away. He loves to eat. Donkeys are great fun as well as hard to deal with at times. You will love it when you get one.

You Might Be a Redneck If---you've transported a goat in an economy car.---Jeff Foxworthy

Welcome Barbara!!! :-) My 40th anniversary is in 3 months - time sure does fly, doesn't it? I love that you have all those animals. I knew someone who had a donkey - the donkey had a marking on his back that looked like a cross. She thought all donkeys had this marking - is that true? Anne

Yes, in God I trust.

Thanks for all these nice welcomes! Anne---my donkey has a cross but I was not sure they all did. I looked it up and they all do have them. I have learned something from you. Thanks. I hope to post a picture of him when I learn how. He is a wonderful pet and a good friend.
