Hey, all my friends and I are finally getting our list of possible animal breeds together for our farm. We want dual purpose chickens and we're running a little low on ideas and wanted personal opinions. Our land is in Vermont so our chickens need to be cold tolerant. We'd also prefer that they aren't broody. Thanks in advance!

I order chickens, that can be used for dual purpose. They are called blacks or browns, from Sunnyside. I ordered through our feed store. Last time i ordered i think they were just over a dollar a piece. Might have been 1.25. If i get straight run, I get about half and half. Though the roosters take alot longer to get to butcher weight, then the broilers that are ready in 8 weeks. You need to have a way to keep the roosters separate from the hens. good luck
