My mom's favorite was the Fourth Wiseman. Not totally Christmas but it was her favorite story.

I've always enjoyed Anne Perry's Christmas series about her various main mystery books. The Jan Karon Mitford series is superb, and her "Shepard's Abiding" is a beautiful Christmas story. It will also get you hooked on the entire series if you haven't read them yet.

Yes, Dawn, I agree that book would be a wonderful Christmas book club idea. All of the Mitford series are wonderful!!

Thanks! I'll look those books up and see what they are about. Which one are you agreeing with, Winnie? The "Shepard's Abiding" book? I would love to do a book club...I just don't read fast enough LOL! I actually haven't read any of the Mitford series, but I'm always interested in finding new stories that others love.

I have to 2nd the Mitford Series, and, yes, Krista, "Shepherd's Abiding" is one of the later in the series that centers around the Christmas season.
I drive for work, and listen to these in the car, and the reader is fabulous! John McDonough, and he is just wonderful at all of the different character accents, and he has a decent singing voice too, for those parts that are centered in the church..
The books on CD are pricy, but I just reserve them at the library. Even if your local library does not have them, if any library in the state does, it can be shipped to your local one (at least that is how it is in OH). Anyway, enjoy!

I looked up the book "Shepherd's Abiding" and noticed that it was a part of the series and a later one. Are these books meant to be read in order or could I start off with that book?

Krista,

Personally I think you need to start with the first of the series, but you MUST read the Mitford books. I want a shirt that says, "I'd Rather Be In Mitford". I would wear it daily. I am re-reading book two ("Light In The Window") at this very moment and my 11 year old is on the first in the series. She is enjoying it!

I bought all of them because I love them so much! Jan Karon is such a gifted writer.

I don't have a Christmas book for you, though! :(

Thank you for clarifying Amanda! I'll pass on that Christmas book and start with book one. I will wait until after the New Year though.

Paul Evans has some great books as well as Donna Vanliere. I also enjoyed one called The Cocoa Conspiracy.

Patrick Taylor's, "An Irish Country Christmas", part of his Irish Country Doctor series (takes place pre-World War II to 1960's. Is a excellent read and will probably get you hooked on this superb series.
