Hi, all! With winter coming soon, I have a few books on my shelves that really need a good dusting off; they are begging to be read!
Here are a few in my line-up:
Mary Jane's Ideabook/Cookbook/Lifebook (yes...again. HA!)
Home Comforts:The Art & Science of Keeping House by Cheryl Mendelson
The Garden Primer by Barbara Damrosch
The More of Less by Joshua Becker (finishing this one up)
I actually have several books I've bought and set aside, but these are the ones that immediately come to mind! Ready for those chilly, rainy nights by the fireplace...

I haven't compiled a list yet, but we have a Barnes and Noble bookstore in town that I go to weekly to see what is new and then order it from our library. I love checking out cookbooks, home decor and architecture, gardening, and travel books. Then there is my love for fiction, so mysteries are at the top of that list. I look forward to seeing more recommendations of books from everyone.

Oh Dawn, that sounds like fun! I am HORRIBLE about returning books to the library and so I am always owing fines. It's cheaper for me to just get my books from Thriftbooks. LOL! Isn't that awful? I enjoy cookbooks and gardening books, too! What kind of travel books do you like?
I love Agatha Christie and I have all of the Sherlock Holmes books. There is another set of books I need to read! Someone was having a book sale years ago and I bought and entire box of A.C. books. I still haven't read many of them! I like 'By the Pricking of My Thumbs" by A.C....so creepy! That particular book was on my grandmother's shelf and I ended up with it. :)

I want to find the book "The Sisters of Glass Ferry". Saw it in MJ mag this month and it looks really interesting.

I love the Mitford series and just finished the latest book. Have you tried reading Patrick Taylor's, "Irish Country Doctor" series. It takes place in the early 1960's in northern Ireland about a doctor's practice with flashbacks to World War II.
I enjoy travel magazines and books. Whatever catches my eye is what I like to look at. We are planning a big vacation for next year and am trying to decide where we want to go. Right now Noway is number one on our list. It's fun and sometimes confusing though to choose where exactly we want to go, there are so many beautiful places to see.

Dawn I have his Irish Country Cookbook and it has several short stories in it. Good reading.

I plan on many hours with my collection of cookbooks and books on herbs, canning, drying, and fermenting.

Sara, check out your library for the books from the series. They are delightful! I saw the cookbook at the bookstore. The recipes looked really good, but since most of them were fish & seafood, I skipped it. Those ingredients are too expensive for us here in the Midwest. Please let us know how your recipes turn out from the Irish Country Cookbook. Have fun reading.

Dawn, I have not tried those, but I will check our library! I would love to see Norway! Anything Scandinavian would be awesome. The closest I will likely ever get there is IKEA, but still. LOL.
Sara, Can't wait for the new seed catalogues. I love old heirlooms and new (non-hybrid) releases. Those are so cool to look at. I am glad you listed magazines, because I'm always on the lookout for those. I was enjoying the Molly Green magazine but they only published a few times and then quit. They were great; my second fave to MJF. I like Backwoods Home, and now they are digital only, as of this last month. :( I will look into Capper's. I used to take Mother Earth News, Grit, and Hobby Farms, but the articles were too generic for me. I like more details than what was given.

I love library book sales - I go the last day when you can fill a bag for $5.00. I found a novel that I am setting aside to read on a snowy winter's evening by the fireplace: "Mrs. Kimble" by Jennifer Haight. It sounds like a fun read. I am also deciding which novel by our farm girl sister, Kathleen Shoop, to read this winter with a special cup of tea at twilight when the sky and snow take on a beautiful blue hue. Both tea & books warm our winter bones!!! :-) Anne

I have a stack of unread magazines to get to - MJF, Real Simple, Food Network, The Magnolia Journal, and Joy of Kosher.
I order used books on AbeBooks.com so they pile up fast! As far as books go, I'm going to read:
A Woman's Guide to the Wild: Your Complete Outdoor Handbook by Ruby McConnell
How to Survive Anything: From Animal Attacks to the End of the World by Tim Macwelch
The Committed Life: Principles for Good Living from our Timeless Past by Rebbetzin Ester Jungreis. (The author is Jewish but this book is highly recommended by people from a lot of different faiths.)
Teshuvah: A Guide for the Newly Observant Jew by Adin Steinsaltz
I usually read a lot of romance novels because I LOOOOVE romance, but I'm in the process of writing one and really want to focus on it during the cold months, so I want to stick to reading non-fiction as to not "muddy" my brain on the topic of romance. ;)

Anne, I do, too! We have a Friends of the Library sale about once or twice a year and i always have to stock up on fun titles! I need to go where there is snow! We haven't had much/any in several years. Seeing a snowy landscape is just so pretty...as long as I have coffee in the house and warm feet. Ha!
Rachel, I have several magazines as well. I was so busy over the past year or two that I set many to the side. So, I'll gather them all up and read when the chill hits the air! I get books from Thriftbooks; is AbeBooks similar? I think I did once get a book from there. It was a childhood favorite of mine that is no longer in print, called "Walk, Rabbit, Walk". Still one of my favorites, honestly! Your reading list sounds so interesting! I love seeing what other people are reading. Good luck on your novel! That is very exciting!

Amanda - You need to go where there is snow?...come on over!!! I love the snow - It whispers softly in the silence as it gently falls to earth as a blanket of many colors from sparkling diamonds in the sun to mysterious blue at dusk. My snowshoes are ready!! :-) Anne

Anne, I just think it is so pretty! As long as I am warm. ha ha I think the last "big" snow down here was in '09? Maybe? And we are talking like 3 inches or something. I've never been somewhere where it is snowy all winter.
