My tomatoes look like red balls on dead sticks (blight has taken over), it's really quite sad; however...my basil overfloweth

Katie your basil is beautiful. Enjoy your bounty in butters, vinegars, and tomato sauces. Just in case you don't already know basil freezes really good in water in ice cube trays. When frozen pop them out and keep in freezer zip lock bags. Not good for fresh recipes but very good in cooked dishes. Will keep in the freezer for months.

I pulled my basil up because the heat was getting to it making the flavor too strong.

Sara, we've had a mild summer so the basil has done quite well. I'm looking forward to using it in many of my dishes. I have 5 different varieties that I have just mixed all together (they're all similar enough that they just add dimension, nothing strange.) Do you have anything else growing?

Katie, my other herbs are doing well. I have 2 rose scented geraniums for teas; 3 thyme; 2 rosemary; 2 sage; 1 Greek oregano; 1 Mexican oregano; 1 winter savory; 1 sweet marjoram; 1 spearmint; 1 bay; 1 banana tree - so far no sign of a banana; 1 comfrey for healing oil/salve; 2 chives. All plants except for one rosemary are grown in containers.

Last harvest in the fall I will dry the herbs. Will mix some of the cooking herbs together and label the jar Herbs de Texas - my take on Herbs de Provence. I find if I don't take my herbs too seriously I enjoy growing and using them a lot better.

Overfloweth is right! My basil is flowering. The bees are in heaven! I need to pull it up soon though, to make space for the fall plants #9785;#65039;

If you need another recipe for your fresh basil, here's one for basil lemonade: http://www.tinybirdsnest.com/basil-lemonade-soda-recipe/

I pour it into "ice pop" trays and it's my kids' favorite! Are you harvesting anything else right now?
