Hi ladies. For a few years now, the speculation has been that I have Crohns. The only way to know for sure is a colonoscopy, but I am always pregnant or nursing, so that has been on hold. Anyways, I am having a flare up right now. This one is pretty bad... severe pain, lots of intestinal bleeding, etc. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to deal with it or to help it??? Thank you so much!

Shannon, I am so sorry you're going through this. I don't have Crohns, but I do have two friends with it. One friend has really got control over it by researching all there is to know about it. The other friend, I think, is in denial. Keep us posted.

Thanks Marly! I finally thought to take some slippery elm bark that I encapsulated, and that has seemed to help some. I guess I need to do some more research :)

Shannon, you know that I come from a western medical point of view so please just take these comments as my opinion that you can consider along with all of your personal research. I know you have studied herbal approaches and have extensive knowledge about their successes. Here are just some of my past experiences I wish to share with you in hopes that they might help you make the decision of what is a prudent and reasonable path to take. I have known two friends who had Ulcerative Colitis that also produced similar symptoms that you describe. Back in the day,I assisted with colonoscopies that were done with just sedation instead of actually putting the patient to sleep like is done today. It might be worth considering an appointment now with a GI specialist to see what options can be safely done and also what might help with the symptoms. One of my friends had to actually be hospitalized with symptoms while pregnant and the treatment did not harm her son in any way. He was born normal, healthy in all ways, and grew up to be a strong and bright young man. Not doing something about the bleeding is also not good for the baby right now, so don't think you cannot get safe and helpful treatment. While some treatment options will wait, there will be things that are safe and could make a big difference in how you feel in this last trimester. Both Crohn's and Ulcerative Colitis are very damaging to the gut and without treatment will continue to erode your health and potentially damage your pregnancy. I would encourage you to seek proper medical help and diagnosis before you make decisions on taking an herbal approach. You want to make sure you know what you are dealing with and the extent of what is going on. It is also possible that there are other GI problems causing these symptoms that you have not considered The only way to fully know that is a look-see with biopsy from a colonoscopy. Once you have this definitive answer, you can choose to do whatever treatment you wish to consider. What you don't want to happen is for something insidious to be taking hold and advancing to the point that then makes surgical emergencies your only answer.

I hope you can get better soon since you just recovered from a terrible kidney infection. Take care and get lots of rest.

Thanks Winnie <3 Sadly, as soon as I've mentioned to the GI doctors out here that I'm pregnant, they seem to shut down on me and tell me to see them after the baby is born :( The flare ups had been doing fairly well since I found out I'm allergic to dairy, but something has surely made it mad right now!!! At the end of the kidney infection, we all got hit with a really bad stomach bug, so I'm thinking my system is just "done" right now. The fact that I'm willing to see doctor and find out what is going on tells you how bad things are right now!!!

Very well said Winnie.

Shannon find other doctors. I have lived with a similar situation. My doctor I had at the time dragged his feet. I wasn't get anywhere but worst. I eventually got a valid diagnosis and have a great doctor who listens. FYI I had UC and in 2005 and 2006 had surgeries to correct it. I am doing great now.

You should have a valid diagnosis so you know what you are dealing with. I used both medical and natural healing methods when I had it. I know you are a busy girl with a full plate but make sure to get your rest and steal a little time for yourself each day. Prayers hugs and kisses.
