Actually, I am looking for empty wooden spools. I got rid of a bunch of full ones a while back and now I am in need of empty ones. I am looking for the diameter of the end to be 1 3/16 inches. The height to be no less than 1 1/2. Height can be more as long as the diameter is right. I am willing to barter just let me know what you like or maybe something you are looking for.

I will look, but I used a bunch last year making mother's day gifts with my class. Have you checked the craft stores? I know you can buy little spools, but I don't know if they sell the larger ones.

Marilyn, I have looked at the craft stores and they are expensive for just a few. Plus, that diameter seems to be difficult to find. I have also checked Amazon.
I thought I would try here. I will check the thrift store too but it isn't usually something they have very often.

Darlene, that would be great if you have some. Just email me and let me know what you'd like in return.

Denise, a search party of one(me), has returned. I found wooden spools of various sizes, but they measure larger across the ends...diameter, I guess. I have small ones and some large ones but the smaller ones are too wee, and the large ones are just too big.
Do you know what the brand of thread was that came on the spools you need? Also do you know the time frame of when they were made?
I will keep my eyes open as garage sale season will begin in a week or so, weather permitting.
Sorry I could not help you.

Marilyn,
Thank you for looking. They are better to be too big than to small. I don't know any brands I just know the dimensions. I have decided that I will buy a dowel the diameter I need and cut it to the length I am looking for. It doesn't need to have the center opening. So pretty much my problem is solved but thank you both for helping out.

Oh Denise, I think I may be able to help you with that. I bought a huge bag of wooden spools and came across them late last night while looking for something else. I'm sure I have some that are the size you are looking for.

Dara, are any of them 1 1/2" tall. I need them at least that tall and the end about 1 1/4" across. The larger ones look like they might work.

Looking for spools that are "1 3/16 inches. The height to be no less than 1 1/2-1/4 inch across and at least" - Most of mine are either less than 1 3/16 or 1-1/4 or more. Of course I do have some tiny tiny ones!

This is such an unusual spool.

I've never seen a spool like that one in the second picture. Interesting isn't it?

Denise are you making table or chair legs, like they did long ago? Could you alternate the large spools with the dowell spools?

Denise if you want me to send you some I will. Perhaps you can sand the edges of the ends down some and make them work, or whittle as a wood carver does. If you want me to send some, give me an idea of a number and I will go count.
