I did years of art shows when I sold handcrafted soap, but since I retired from the 'circuit' quite a few years ago I am tempted to participate in one of my favorite shows this coming September. I would like to sell my Union #36 Rag Rugs, but I am unsure as to the amount of various sized rugs I should plan on bringing. My stock is low---Christmas gift giving has nearly wiped me out....Any suggestions?

My cloth labels and business cards feature a cross between the Union flag and the Confederate Flag---Should I just go with an "Old Glory?" theme for my booth?

I'm looking forward to hearing some of your great suggestions-

Melody

When my brother had his store, the lady he got rugs from to sell went from $25 to $100+ depending on their size.

Melody, I don't know about pricing but your rug is gorgeous! The colors are so pretty and remind me of Spring!

I've been selling the occasional rug for 1.00 an inch---just wondering how many I should plan on bringing up to the show.

How many do you have, Melody? I know when I go to the shows around here (small town shows-comparatively speaking)..I will see people drooling over a stack of 1-2 doz. rugs. And, then it depends on if there are different sizes. Will you sell other items? btw: I am a drooler. So far, I have only been able to buy one rug. And, yes, your rug is the pic is gorgeous!!!

After gift giving at Christmas---I have a grand total of only six---assorted sizes (length)--I finally finished my loom room this past summer painting the floor and setting up the loom, which I had in my downstairs front-room so I haven't been weaving at all. Once the loom is fully loaded with warp I can go relatively fast. I want to display the rugs on some of my decoupage/collage parlor tables which I will sell as well.

Any specific colors that might be a popular sell?

(I pulled up the area rug and painted the floor white--looks much brighter!)

Hi Melody, I have to ask...do you sell your rugs online? I keep looking at the first picture and I have to tell you that you hit my colors exactly. I don't know what the size is but I would be willing to purchase one from you.

I've sold a 'few'in my Etsy store and charge 1.00 an inch-not including the fringe. The going rate locally (Amish) is .75 an inch and the buyer supplies the fabric--I supply all of my own fabric--curtains, tablecloths, bedsheets, and cotton fabric that's on sale or what I can find at thrift stores.

I am wondering what favorite color schemes would be popular?

The link didn't work, but that could be because I am at work, but I did find the etsy site. I love all the vintage items, but I am not seeing any of the rugs.

Melody, the rug is beautiful! Don't think $1.00 is too much. If you take a variety of sizes and colors maybe you could take orders?

I'm looking to start a personalized embroidery business. Any suggestions would be welcome. Need a catchy name too. :)

I am an embroiderer as well---mainly Redwork---I used to sell muslin and french linen dishtowels with vintage iron on designs. I did tons of art shows for over 7 years and I found that the general public had no clue as to the time and expertise it took to embroider when everything now is done by machine. A few old ladies knew and my work brought BIG smiles with customers of that era--I slowly phased it out and only do a handful of work now for family and friends.

How about " A Stitch In Time?"

"Una" is dressed and ready to receive weft--I have pre-packaged 9 boxes/bags of pre-rolled weft with 7 more sets to complete. I want to have at least 50 rugs in various sizes ready for the September art festival. I think I'm gonna need more FABRIC!

If it's not too difficult I suggest taking some in light colors and some in dark colors. I would be more interested in the dark colors, while I see others on here like the light. My guess would be to take maybe 20 to 30 and then take orders from those who want a specific size and color.
