Should I give the birds the remainder of a bag of salted pumpkin seeds? Will the salt be bad for them?

No! Salt is not a part of birds natural diet. Perhaps sprinkle them on your salad or in your oatmeal instead.

Thanks,
I think I will just pitch them to the compost as they are kind of old.

Good idea Bridgette! How many feeders do you have and what kind of birds are in your area? I could/should fill my bird feeders more than once a week, but I have up to three squirrels (never at the feeder at the same time, the other two will run around and eat off the garden floor) that take over the one with black sunflower seeds. And what a sight that is. They look like they are doing acrobats while eating. I don't put more out because I am afraid the squirrels will invite more friends.
