I took EVERY item of clothing I own, shoes, bags, accessories, and it's all piled on the bed..and floor..and chair..oh my!!
I would lay down but I can't and oh my!

And so the purge begins.

Pinterest is helping and I have my pics of Rachel Ashwell pulled up on my laptop.

Oh my!!!

Who is with me today?

Wow! That is a big job. I just did this last year. I reorganized my closet, tried on EVERY. PIECE. OF. CLOTHING. Then I got rid of anything that did not fit, or I hadn't worn in ages. Then I organized my closet and drawers. You will be so happy when you are done! Getting dressed in the morning is actually fun, because I put together outfits easily. Laundry is not an issue to put up. Clutter drags us down.

Today I organized our pantry and two cabinets. A little at a time. Over the holidays I organized a closet where we keep the wrapping supplies, among other things. Otherwise it would have been stressful to wrap anything.

I love to organize and purge. It is exhausting though! Good luck!!!

Nicole

I also did my closet and dresser drawers last year. What a difference it has made in the ease of putting things away. This year, well the last two days, I went through all my seasonal decorations and purged, purged, purged! It feels so good. I decided instead of so many things to decorate with that I would just do small touches here and there with my normal decor. I use to change out most everything each season. No more. Way too much stuff and too much work.
I have gone through all of my crafting items and did the same. I have one closet that is used by everyone for storage of luggage and things like that which I will tackle soon. It is my intent to go through every room and purge. I finally came to the place where I realized for me it is ridiculous for me to have so many things I don't enjoy.

Y'all have been busy! Such inspiration. Keep it coming because I got sick and I am not very motivated right now and there is a huge pile in the corner of my bedroom. The dogs thinks its a new bed. :)

We have a store in town that sells name brand knock offs (Talbot, J Jill, LL Bean, Columbia, Lands End etc). SO unusual for the small town in which I live, but I support them with a vengeance.
I will buy NICE shirts for, on the average $4. But here is the kicker. Since I am self employed and write off EVERYTHING, Goodwill's donation sheet says that for a women's shirt, you can write off between $4-$12. So, from where I stand, after a year or so, even if I take the minimum write off, I am getting my wardrobe for close to $0, and maybe even coming out ahead! I can get new clothing, donate, and get a decent write off. If any of y'all itemize, check out the Goodwill donation chart.

On New Year's Day 2016, I turned all the hangers around on the rods in my closet. As I wore an item during the year, I would replace it the correct way. Then on NYD 2017, I took down all the hangers that were still wrong-way and took those clothes to our local clothing bank, since I knew I hadn't worn them in a year. Felt so good!!!

I've heard of doing that Marilyn but haven't tried it. Maybe I should give it a go. Probably lose another 1/4 to 1/2 my wardrobe.

This is on my TODO list for this weekend! I was going to do it last week, but got a horrid cold and didn't get much of anything accomplished.
In 2016 I had minimized my wardrobe to just a few colors, black, grey and plum. But since I love a bargain and thrift shopping it has grown again. My closet is a mess! If i remember I will take a before and after. My goal is to get to 21 items not including undies, pj's or coats. I also need to clean out my jewelry since I am not a jewelry wearer. I love a minimalist closet it makes decisions and life just easier!

It makes life so much easier! I wear mostly black -- one whole side of my closet is black stuff. Then I can always pop a little color with a scarf or something. It felt so good to take all those things to the clothing bank.

Dude went through his suits on NYD as well. He tried on each one and made two piles -- "Keep" and "Toss." Since he is no longer working in the corporate world, there was quite a bit in the "Toss" pile! I was so proud of him.

Update- haven't finished the clothes yet but the house is looking better. I have culled through and pulled out odds and ends. We don't have much but removing just a trash bag full of stuff has been very zen for me. I do admit, I bought 2 new scarves, but I donated 6. They were tattered and just didn't look peppy anymore. But I am proud I only bought 2 and I had to really analyze and compare them to purchase. And they were 40% off.

Sounds like a win-win, Heather! I love scarves -- they are small and versatile and can really lift your spirits.

Way to go Heather! Scarves can really make a smaller wardrobe feel bigger. Plus they can be wore so many different ways.
I still have the closet on the radar for Saturday, right after the Christmas tree downing.

Good luck, Heather - that purge can be so daunting, and yet so utterly cathartic! Such a wonderful way to kick off the New Year! Kudos to you and your fresh start! Hugs - Nini

Bridgette! LOL!! This is me, too!!
But it's compounded by two little ones getting under my feet and pulling things out of piles. I think I'll just have to wait until spring and I can send them all outside for the whole day with dad!

Wow! Way to go, girls! I certainly know how difficult that job is.

A few months ago, my husband came home to find me in the middle of this.

I had figured I would just pull everything out of the closet, organize it, and put it back. But, then I just kept bring out more stuff, and more stuff, and more stuff! Those closets hold way more than you'd think.

I did indeed, Denise! It took four days, but now we can actually walk into the closet. Where/when did we get so much stuff?!

I did this last year after my divorce and I filled three dumpsters full of stuff I had been carting around for years that was not even worth donating. I need to go through and do my clothes again. I keep a very small wardrobe as it is, so I wear the same stuff over and over and eventually I need to step back and see that some of my stuff is looking less than great and needs to be tossed. I am hoping to hold out until I am forced into maternity wear and then I can really purge some of my stuff. In the mean time I need to go through under the stairs and get rid of things I don't need and reorganize. Thanks for the inspiration ladies!

Grace, when you get that figured out let me know! I have the same here. I have been working little by little purging books of my dads. He loves westerns and got so many for Christmas this year. Of course he reads them fast so my daughter keeps him stocked from the thrift and library sales. I have been slowly going through and listing them for him. I the mean time I keep seeing what I can find of my own to get rid of. How do we accumulate so much stuff?

I have taken the plunge!I threw my entire closet onto the bed. I swear clothes must be like rabbits and multiply. Where did all this stuff come from.
I hope to get down to a 30 items or less closet, I can see that is going to be a challenge.
Took a break to make coffee (I'm going to need it)
Going back in... say a prayer for me.

I'll be back with picks a little later. If not call 911 cause the heap must have swallowed me up ;)
