We are just like our parents. Our dad worked as an appliance repair man for Montgomery Wards and our mom is a creative problem solver.

We live on the same road as the animal shelter. While going home I saw one of these cuties in the road and his brother outside the fence. They're spending the night at my house then go to the shelter. Poor boys were hungry and thirsty.

I bond within 3 minutes (or less)! If they spent the nite with me , I would be claiming them as my own if real owners weren’t found!

When asked “How are you?”, I reply, “Better than good!”

We are already outnumbered by the 5 dogs we have, I don't need 2 more Poopies.

Oh my gosh Vanessa! Those boys are adorable! You're so sweet for giving them a place to sleep and eat for the night. I hope they find amazing families.

With the cold weather my inner baker woke up. These are kolache, like my grandmother made. I am not completely satisfied with them because the bread part is a bit too heavy. But I will keep trying different recipes till I get a softer texture. My dad fondly recalled how grandma would make a sweetened cottage cheese filling, so I filled them with that.
Nobody else here eats sweets so they will be shared.

Christmas came today! I got myself an OttLite. Our regular lamps don't do the trick.

Now I can really get to work on the quilt.

This is all my hair collected from my hairbrush in 2023. More probably was vacuumed up. I think I shed more than our husky! I'll add it to my garden as compost

So frustrating trying to sew today. Three of my four sewing machines are on the fritz. I'll be toting them to the repair shop. At least one of them works.

My mother-in-law has fallen twice in as many days and has gashes on her head. She has continually told us she doesn't need a round the clock caretaker, but its obvious she does. No brain damage luckily.
I'm sitting in an emergency room while tests are done, waiting for them to put in more staples. I joked that she'll look like the Bride of Frankenstein.

Prayers for your MIL, so sorry she fell. I lose a lot of hair too. It also will keep certain bugs from getting to your plants.
My Grandmother always cut our hair as kids and saved it for all kinds of stuff, most outside in the garden. I have a few curls she saved in an envelope from my haircut when I was 5. I'm going to get an ott light too!

Thank you Connie, Karen and Krista. This time of year it is dull and gray; but spring will come eventually.
We went to an antique mall today and my sweetie whizzed through it then insisted on going to eat.
One thing I've noticed lately is people saying "be careful." As I leave the nursing home, leaving a restaurant or store..do I look like a risk taker?

Sounds like a fun day! You absolutely do not look like a risk taker! My sweetie always whizzes thru antique stores, so I have times I go alone so I can take all the time I want Lol!!

It must be a man thing...
Tonight I was looking through a book by James Thurber. Here is my favorite Thurber cartoon.

There's a thin layer of snow on the ground and it's bitterly cold. I've fed the outside cts, birds and deer. Now I'm starting the melancholy task of packing up my mother-in-law's clothing. Since she will be living in the nursing home we decided to rent the apartment to our son.
I'll mark each bin in case we need to find something.

Tomorrow I will be taking this quilt to Morehead KY for the Rowan County Quilt Show. I'll find out if it won any awards on Saturday.

Unfortunately I misunderstood the registration form and marked it as quilted by sewing machine. In any case, there were a lot of quilts in the long arm computer quilted category better than mine.
It was fun to see them and learn new patterns and techniques.
