Normally, we don't have special plans but this year, we have been invited to the beach with friends to help celebrate the weekend , including a milestone birthday, and announcement that one of the people has registered to run for the US Congress in November. Lots to celebrate about!

We always gather with our children and grandchildren for the day. In the evening we take the grands over to the local high school to watch the fireworks.

Bonnie,

We have tried to have July 4th parties but so many near us travel at that time. No mind, I still love it! My back "shabby chic" porch is decorated all summer with red, white, and blue. On the 4th we always cookout and I make baked beans and potato salad, and a red white and blue dessert like a lie or cobbler. I have patriotic colored clothing, and we watch the fireworks over the lake from our backyard. It's my favorite part of summer.

Farmgirl hugs,
Nicole

My boyfriend's family has a house near Dale Hollow Lake, we will be going down with our dogs to visit them for the weekend and spend some time on the water. He's a big fisher, and I'm big on lying in the sun reading while he fishes. Since the last time we went down, we got another dog and he is an enthusiastic swimmer, so will be joining us (with his doggie life jacket) for part of the time.

Then apparently on the 4th there's a party at one of the marinas and fireworks of course.

For us, we always head out to where my husband grew up and participate in their city activities. They have breakfast and lunch, auctions, giveaways, games, a parade, face painting, obstacle courses, etc. Then at the end of the day they bring in a fire tuck and run the water hose into the air for children to run through. This year we have been asked to put our son in the parade. I am so excited! We will then watch fireworks at dark.

We like to go to a nearby mountain mining town and enjoy their little fun parade. We also usually have my daughter and SIL visiting, but not this year. Hubby and I stayed home. It was the end of a rainy, cool weekend which was a blessed relief in the middle of VERY HOT weather before and it's gotten that way again. We watched the local fireworks in town from our deck. We live about 5 miles north and the elevation is a bit higher so we could see them pretty well and then just crawl in bed without having to fight traffic to get back home!
