It's still too cold to plant anything here and there is snow in the forecast for tomorrow . . .

However, I will be pulling up mulch and metal frames next week to get ready to till and hopefully plant seeds in the middle of May. We usually have decent weather then for that much.

However, 99% of the time we have a late freeze the beginning of June so we don't plant tomato or pepper plants until about June 10th.

These are my seeds . . . waiting for their day to go in the dirt!

CeeJay, love planning and dreaming about a garden. That's half the fun. Nice selection of seeds.

I like learning about how and when different parts of the country garden. Here in my corner of Texas tomatoes have been in the ground since March. I don't grow them anymore but my sisters do. I did have a large pot of Texas sweet onions that I used as green onions. When they were gone a lemon grass plant went in. How's that for crop rotation.

Today I cleaned up the black plastic we use in the garden and the metal frames to hold it down and spread my compost (from our compost barrel) around. Then I announced to my hubby that the garden was ready to till . . hint, hint!

Not yet, Michele. We had yukky weather over the weekend and I was so sick yesterday that my hubby had to stay close by. Today is better but now we need to look at next week . . and get some water on it.

I am still dreaming. It has been to cold and nasty to get much done outside. Still have a bit of time so we should get a decent garden done this year.

We've had such crazy weather with night time freezes, wind, rain, snow, etc., etc. that nothing has happened yet, but it is early still.
DO plan to till tomorrow. We got rain over the weekend and a shower last night, so hubby thinks it's ready to till! Hope it's done tomorrow!
Got the mowing done today which was a chore . . soooooooooo many weeds!

The garden is tilled . . . YAHOO!!!!
Now to go rake it out and put down the black plastic that we do every year. That is such a work saver for keeping weeds down and keeping moisture in the soil (dry climate here)!
I'll get it raked this afternoon . . . not sure about the plastic as that's pretty much a two person job.
Making progress!

The mulch is down with metal frames to help keep it down (too much wind around here). It's a nice sunny day and I'll think about planting seeds probably next week.

I just might plant seeds tomorrow. Weather forecast says there's a slight chance of rain on Sunday, then sunny again. We'll see.

Planted seeds last Saturday and we've had up and down weather with some rain, hail and sunshine. My lettuce and kale are coming up and it looks like the chard is going to pop through soon too!
YAY!

I planted seeds for: carrots, beets, parsnips (first time for parsnips), lettuce, chard, kale, purple snap beans and leeks (by seed and first time for leeks as well). I planted the purple beans last year and really like them. They're just like green beans except purple until you cook them and then they're green, but they sure are easier to pick because you can SEE them!

A week later and my kale, chard, lettuce and beets are coming up! YAY!
Going to plant marigolds (by plant, not seed) today here and there in the garden
. They help with bugs and deter deer!

Everything I've planted is coming up, except I haven't seen evidence of parsnips yet. I haven't looked this morning!
I have never planted potatoes in my garden but decided yesterday to cut a small one up into four pieces and planted them . . we'll see.

When I was growing up my dad raised acres and acres of potatoes . . . reds, whites and Russets. I've cut, planted, picked, washed, sorted and package THOUSANDS of potatoes! So I certainly know the process, (every piece has to have a least one "eye") but just haven't planted them in my garden.

We did container gardening this year. Last night we got a good down pour so I am hoping it did not drown the seeds. They have only been in the pots a few days. I can't wait to see what starts sprouting first. I planted several varieties of squash, blk. eye pea, tomato, carrots. Once, they get about a foot tall I'll transplant them into their own pots.

Diana, I hope the owl statue and herbs keep the mice away.

I'm going to get marigolds and other herbs, garlic and onion to ward off the caterpillar and worms.

Bough my tomato, pepper and eggplant plants today. Will plant them the end of next week, they need to get acclimated to being outside and we need to get past our possible, usual late freeze. Bought our favorites, Early Girl, Fourth of July, red cherry and sun sugar (yellow) cherry tomatoes. Ancho, garden salsa and jalapeno peppers and only one choice for eggplant.

Hi Patti,
I just saw a show on Queen Elizabeth's garden and the gardeners use only garlic powder mixed in water and that is what I will be doing this year. I don't know the amount but I will try. The Queen's garden was beautifull. Anyone try this before?

My garden is in: tomatoes, eggplant, peppers, kale, cauliflower, cukes,, zucchini, yellow squash, parsley, basil, Rosemary, lettuce, thyme. All raised beds and square foot gardening. I have done this for several years and It does really well. Now I'm doing all my flower beds. My hands won't look good until winter and I won't be able to straighten up till then either. LOL. Wouldn't have it any other way though.

Be Blessed and Be a Blessing,
