Anyone interested in doing a bag swap for the Shopping Green Expert badge?
Description :
If you belong to a local Farmgirl Chapter, organize a reusable bag swap or a bag making “sew in.”
Give a talk on why this is something others should consider doing.
If you do not belong to a local Farmgirl Chapter, post your thoughts on the farmgirl forum and see if other farmgirls would be interested in a bag swap.

I would LOVE to donate some bags for a swap. Would that help you any? I have 6 nice canvas grocery totes that are extra in the back of my jeep that I could launder and send off.

Our chapter has chosen to do this in November. We're going to sew up 6 bags each and exchange them. Some members will find this a challenge because of sewing machine issues. So if you have any extra, we'd love to take them off your hands.

Sylvia and MaryJane, I do not have an active group in my area atm so I would love to get in on your swap. Let me know if that would be ok, and the details.
Thanks so much,

Sonja

You're welcome to be our virtual chapter member and join in on our swap. We're making 6 bags to swap. Our group has a few quilters who love to sew, a vintage sewing machine collector (actually I love to collect vintage sewing machines, too) and two who are sewing machine challenged. So that's why I'm looking for Mary Jane to help out if she can. Let me know if you need a pattern or some help!

Where would you like me to send them? I'd thought about leaving some of mine in a shopping cart randomly but this is much better. Finally, a home for my extra shopping totes!

I am moderately proficient with my machine, but imagine I can find a pattern here unless you have a stock one you are all using. I am working to rejuvenate our local chapter, but it is going slow, so I would love to be a virtual member in yours! I would love to end up with a MaryJane bag ;-)

Mary Jane,
Thank you for offering. It looks like Sonja would like one and I'll take whatever you're willing to send. My address: Sylvia Jacobus, 20004 106th Ave SE, Kent, WA 98031. We're meeting in November to do our swap. Lately I've been sewing with a rescued Singer Featherweight. Someone didn't like how it smells. It had some old grease around its gears; once removed, the machine not only smells great but it sews beautiful stitches! Love rescuing these machines.

Sylvia, I will send a few tomorrow. In fact, I have some ready for embellishments. Great story about the Featherweight. I know my daughter and I love ours. They're just so dainty, well-made and pretty to look at.

Sonja, send me your address and I can send a couple your way also, maryjane@maryjanesfarm.org

Thank you, thank you so much for your thoughtfulness. We will so appreciate having these bags. They will help our chapter go GREEN! Yeah!
I've rescued several Featherweights and sent them on to good homes. I love this recent one. I'm sewing the Farm Girl Vintage quilt blocks with it. So glad you featured Lori Holt.
