| Hello, at our last MJ farmgirl meeting we were discussing how our going green products were working and one of the ladies stated her clothes look a little "dingy" with using the powdered laundry detergent. I use liquid and honestly do not think that mine look "dingy". Has anyone else had this problem? Thank you. |

It can be her water. I use "bluing" for my whites or a little lemon juice. Vinegar in the rinse keeps things soft and keeps colors from fading.
I have horrible, hard Connecticut well water.
Suggest that to her and see if it helps.

I just read an interesting tid-bit on the computer today..
for armpit sweat stains on clothing, crush 2 uncoated reg asprin, and apply it to the stained area, allow to sit for awhile and then toss into the washer and launder as normal.
Hmm, I will hav eto try this...
Oh and yep, we have somewhat hard water, so I always ad white vinegar to my laundry rinse water...

Thank you, I usually add white vinegar to my wash loads because I was told it helped keep clothes soft and was good as a deodorizer. Maybe that's why my clothes did not get the overall dingy look she is having. I did not think it was helping the color issue. Just an added bonus.

I just recently tried white vinegar and peroxide to whiten whites, I tried it on two white dresses and it worked well. I let them soak in it for a couple of hours, and it seemed to do the trick.

| I use vinegar as well and I do not get the toxic perfumed exhaust from my dryer that many of my neighbors unleash on the neighborhood on laundry day. The vinegar removes any soap residue as well as minerals from hard water. For a fresh smell, I pour a quart of hot vinegar over a small handful of lavender or rosemary and let it set for at least a day (though I've had some tucked back in the pantry for several months). Strain it and put the bottle in your laundry room. I use about 1/4 for my front end washer. I just put it in the fabric softener dispenser. The vinegar smell evaporates as the clothes dry. |
